RNDP 6000-100nas bios update

i posted with my issue earlier before.. 

i just aquired a RNDP 6000-100NAS, business addition.

i updated the firmware/OS to the latest stable version (OS6.10.7), only to realize that it didn't include the bios update.

i've verified that my bios is the 1.6 version, so with this version i'm unable to upgrade my cpu to an intel E7500 or 7600.

it seems that the easiest way to upgrade the bios would be to revert the OS back to version 4.2.31, do the bios update, and then re-update the OS back to 6. 

i just got the nas, there isn't any data on the drive(s) so i won't lose anything.

Can anyone help me with this downgrade? 

I found the usb recovery utilities, both for 6 and 4.2..  the utility for 6 won't see the 4.2.31 image so it won't install it on the flash drive, and the 4.2 recovery utility gives me a windows side-by-side error and seems to be unable to work even in compatibility mode..

the flashdrive is an old 16GB peice..  

I've scoured the web looking for instructions but there isn't anything clear.. and i was referred to a wiki page, but the wiki page doesn't seem to exist!

No need for USB recovery for this - that isn't needed for legacy NAS. Also no need to review the wiki - just download and install the prebuilt binary. After it is installed, you need to do a factory default. 

For your convenience, here is a direct link to the binary image you need:  RAIDiator-x86-4.2 .31-downgrade 

The bios update add-on is here: install  http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin

Note that if you have a spare disk, you can first 

1. power down
2. remove your current disks (labeling by slot)
3. add the single disk
4. do a factory install and basic setup on OS 6
5. downgrade, and install the bios
6. upgrade again
7. power down, and reinstall the current disks in their original slots.

This avoids rebuilding the data volume twice (so is will be quite a bit faster).

Thanks a lot for the reply.  I actually got it going last night (i think)!

i was able to downgrade OS6 to OS4.2.31 by renaming the OS4.2.31 bin to the exact same name as the OS6.img.  then i was able to upload OS4.2.31 via the firmware updater in OS6.

I couldn't find the command that gave me the firmware version info, so i haven't verified that i am infact using the latest bios for the nas, but i'm pretty sure all went through just fine..  i didn't get any error messages when it uploaded, so..

afterwards i re-updated back to 6.10.7.

The only thing that's odd, and maybe you can verify, is that under the system window, where it shows the processor and system fan, and the core and system temps (with the thermometers), apparently there should be on thermometer per core (i'm currently running the stock cpu, so it should show 2 thermometers)...   Mine only shows 1 thermometer.

is that correct?

Where is that screenshot from?

All my desktop ReadyNAS only show the CPU temp - nothing about each core.

The only time I've seen core temperatures on a ReadfyNAS is when the OS was using the wrong configuration file.

You can verify the BIOS version in bios_ver.log in the downloaded log .zip.

i found that screen shot from something another person posted.  I have the same thing, only mine shows 1 cpu, not 2 separate cores.
