ReadyNAS netgear rn10400 error -out of memory+36c
Hi. We keep getting an error -out of memory+36c a minute after the NAS boots up when not in read-only mode. Please help.

The scratch disk can be any SATA disk you happen to have around (and can be any size). You will need one to do the first step mdgm-ntgr recommends
Note the part where you upgrade the firmware with the scratch disk installed (if necessary) - that is actually a pretty important aspect.

No. It turns off quotas, and resets the network configuration to use DHCP. It also will reset your admin password to password.
Other settings shouldn't be changed.
