Windows Application install from Duo - Permissions ?
Hi,
I'm trying to get an windows application called Quotewerks to run off my Nas Duo (v2). This requires me to install a 'node' for each client PC which is installed from the NAS share\folder.
The install skips through several components but fails on the last one with the message:
On the NAS the set-up program sits in \\Office_Nas\QuoteWerks_NAS\QuoteWerks\ but the link above suggests 'QBS9LQ~1' ?
If I try and run the msi file directly it appears to open. The same message is returned from my second Nas Duo (which is a V1) and I get the same result on different Win7 and XP clients. I have SMB, AFP & NFS ticked.
The 'node' software does install OK from a shared Win7 folder on a PC.
The thought is that it's a permissions problem with the NAS but I'm struggling to ID what to change. I have 4 or 5 client machines to set up. We don't have any specific users set up on the NAS boxes.
Any help or guidance much appreciated.
Thanks
David

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserQBS9LQ~1 looks like the "short" name name for the folder. I'm not sure why you are seeing it.
What happens if you copy the installation folder from the NAS to the PC, and then install it from there? - david000AspirantHi Stephen, Cheers for the reply.

The original install file set on the PC install's fine (it's what we are using at the moment), and I've coped it over to the both NAS boxes several times in total so I've no reason to suspect that there is an issue with the data. Also is you browse directly to the file, it opens and starts to install. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt might also mean that the install script simply fails on \\nas\share paths.
Perhaps mapping the share to a drive letter or simply copying the folder to the PC would resolve it. - david000AspirantI have mapped the drive just in case but the result is the same.
Do you mean copy the folder to the local pc ? On the same path ? There isn't an option on the pop up 'fail' notice to retry or choose a different location. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI mean copy the folder to the local PC - but not on the same path.
- david000AspirantI can try that - however is there not an option to set appropriate permissions on the NAS ? I need to get this resolved and can see that I'll have to change NAS vendors which would be a shame.

I am not convinced it is a permissions problem. What happens if you try to open \\OFFICE_NAS\QuoteWerks_NAS\QBS9LQ~1\ with windows explorer?david000 wrote: I can try that - however is there not an option to set appropriate permissions on the NAS ? In any event, buying a new NAS because you don't want to copy an installation folder to 4 or 5 PCs seems a bit crazy to me. (I don't work for Netgear). - david000Aspirantah, well, our backup NAS is almost full so it's on the cards anyway. I'll have a look at it again let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help :)

I dropped the folder to the laptop (in a c:\temp folder) and then tried to install from the NAS. Same fail.StephenB wrote: What happens if you try to open \\OFFICE_NAS\QuoteWerks_NAS\QBS9LQ~1\ with windows explorer?
It starts to install the .msi and seems to complete, although as it's only one of the install msi's the while application remains broken. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
I wasn't thinking you should try to install the MSI itself, but was wondering if you could see the folder contents. Clearly you could.david000 wrote: StephenB wrote: What happens if you try to open \\OFFICE_NAS\QuoteWerks_NAS\QBS9LQ~1\ with windows explorer?

I think that's a clue. You have an install folder (the original that you copied to the NAS), but the copy (original->NAS->c:\temp) fails? Perhaps compare the two, and see if something is missing (setting windows to show hidden and system files). You might also copy the original into c:\temp, and see if it fails the same way.david000 wrote:
