readynas RNDU2000 stuck on Booting (readynas RND-2a)

Hello fellow nas users,

Since a few day's i have a big issue with one of my Nas.

While playing some music from it , it suddenly went off-line and was no longer available in my network. I also have a readynas Duo2 and this one is still working without problems.

when i did a reboot nothing seems to happen than only the fan starts and slows down after some seconds...  the activity led burns for a few seconds and that's it ... nothing more...

I've read about the duo that it should be possible to put the both 2TB disks from the defective one in it to ....  and that works. only i have the message Bad base ( defecte Basis) , i don't know if the mean bad root or bad OS...

the curious thing is that when i use Raidar v6, the condition of the disk's is Good , but in the first column i have a blue spot, and there is no Firmware version , it's only blank.

when replacing the duo with his own disks, there is a firmware version..

What can i do ?  it feels to me as if the RND2000 is defective, it's not aible to find his Firmware ...

Using the resetbutton and powering up ... has the same result, only the fan starts and after 1 minut still no leds that burns ...

The data on the Nas is very important for me, it contains all the pictures of my children and my music. The reason why i have several Nas.

Would be great to receive some respons that is the solution for my problem.

Grtz

eric

When did you purchase the ultra?  If you are the original purchaser, the warranty is 3 years.

If you have a scratch disk, try removing the existing disks (labeling them by slot) and then try to do a factory install with only the scratch disk in place.  That will let you know if the hardware is ok.

While the disks are out, you can test them with vendor diags on a windows PC (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital).

      hi Stephen,

Tnx for your fast reply. Unfortenely the nas is 3 years and 4 months old.

with scratch disk you mean a kind of Test disk ? i can do that ..

Strange Fact is ... i cannot perfom a fact default or OS reinstall. Simply because holding this reset and power up give's no burning leds as mentioned in the manual. So i think the unit is out of firmware or bad memory ..

do you know a way to reinstall the firmware with USB or ?  because it does not boot ..

You could try unformatting or zeroing the scratch drive - that will force a factory install.

There are instructions for usb recovery here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=166

Note the warning - it would be good to get some confirmation from Netgear that it is appropriate.
