rsync (DeltaCopy) vs Windows/NAS (Timestamp)
Which protocol will be better for a Winows share to Nas backup . What are the main differences between rsync and Windows/NAS (Timestamp)?
I need a backup solution for my 400gb photo catalog.
rsync seems to be slower, it needs a server on windows (DeltaCopy) and It has a bug:
Every time I run a rsync backup job pointing to destination share:backup (~backup dir) it clears all Permissions of that share.....
Why?
So what are the benefits of using rsync over Windows/NAS (Timestamp)?

- AmidalaNETGEAR Employee RetiredFrom Winows share folder to Nas share folder, we usually use remote : Windows/NAS (Timestamp) or Windows/NAS (Achive Bit).It use cifs or cifs - ab protocol.
I don't know, how to use Rsync protocol over Windows/NAS (Timestamp)? Have you use the third party software? - przemek_chAspirantI've used free DeltaCopy rsync server on my Winows8 64bit.
You need to disable windows firewall or open 873 port - otherwise You won't be able to connect.
But as I said - every time I copy something from windows to Nas share all the permissions are removed form the share folder.
BTW there is a second bug in raidator 5.3.5 - if the connection string in the rsync backup preferences will be wrong after You perform the connection test it will show "sucess" :) But the backup will fail anyway :)
