How to check size of a share/folder from Windows - solved.

I decided to open this thread to let users know that there is a very simple way to check sizes of ReadyNAS shares/folders from Windows connected computer. For previous discussion, and to better understand limitations imposed by BTRFS file system (what can/can not be seen, what is a "folder", etc.), please see: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=79815&p=460366#p460366 (this topic was also discussed at length in many other threads).

A very simple solution: in Windows computer install XYplorer Free Edition file manager, in Tools/Configuration/General/Tree and List select: "Show folder sizes - in network locations as well". XYplorer shows very nicely, with minimal delay, sizes of ReadyNAS folders and subfolders.

As a quick and dirty test I copied a couple of 100GB folders, each containing about a dozen sub-folders, each sub-folder containing a few hundred files from ReadyNAS to Windows 8.1 computer. I compared the folder sizes shown by XYplorer on ReadyNAS with sizes of copied folders as shown by standard Windows File Explorer: the numbers were identical.

This very short experiment led me to believe that there are likely to be other file explorers in Windows environment which can also show folder sizes on ReadyNAS (standard MS Windows 8.1 File Explorer can not do that: it shows ReadyNAS folder sizes as blank). It is also likely that there are similar tools in different computing environments (Linux, etc) which can also do that. Thus the task of showing the folder sizes as described in the above quoted thread is not only possible, but also appears to be not that difficult - clearly there are various interpretation limitations as discussed before.
