MTU change not persistent
Hi,
I faced some "slow" network performance (18mb/s) while writing to my NVX Business. I found that there was heavy packet fragmentation.
So I changed the MTU in Frontview from 1500 to 1492. That boosts the writing speed by factor 2.5 (~ 45mb/s)
My problem : the MTU setting is not persistent. After reboot of NAS the setting is back to 1500.
Why ? Is there a way to force the MTU to 1492 on boot via e.g. some init script ?
NVX is running in 802.3ad LACP (Layer2) with a Netgear GS108Tv2
RAIDiator 4.2.24
BTW : I was also not able to manage jumbo frames between the switch and the NVX. Also MTU is set to 9000 on NVX and in GS108Tv2 I can´t use ping with sizes over 1500. Netgear not compatible with Netgear ?
Thx & regards

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI've seen this myself on my Pro (also running 4.2.24 and LACP). The MTU reverts to 1500, which it shouldn't.
Also, I think the combination of LACP and jumbo frames is a problem for the switch. - KivasAspirantHi,
ok...I have removed the teaming from switch and NVX. At least with this setting any changed MTU value is persistent even after reboot.
Seems to be a bug in RAIDator that the MTU is not persistent if teaming is activated.
Jumbo frames is still not working.
From SSH of NVX I´m pinging the switch. But with frames > 1472 (1500) the ping is lost.ip link list
reports MTU 9000 for eth0, but somehow the negotiation between switch and NIC sticks to standard MTU
I can live without the jumbo frames....although would be nice to know if this improves the performance or not
But the MTU reset after boot is nasty
Regards
Kivas - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSince you need an MTU of 1492, it seems to me that you can't run jumbo frames anyway.
