ReadyNAS Duo Recycle Bin
ReadyNAS RND2120 V2
Someone has deleted a large folder from one of the shares on the ReadyNAS Duo. Each share has a Recycle bin folder. I have looked in both. The recycle bin folder does contain some files within folder structures but it does not contain my large deleted folder (maybe more than 20GB).
Why is it not there?
Thank you
(I have turned off my ReadyNAS Duo to prevent any writing to the disks, with a view to attempting data recovery....so I am not able to answer questions about the ReadyNAS Duo other than from memory.)

There is both an age limit and a size limit that needs to be configured for each share's recycle bin.
I am guessing that you likely didn't change the defaults when you enabled it. The default size limit is 200 MB; the default age is 10 days.
It's possible that Netgear data recovery could help, but it is expensive (starts at $200) and makes no guarantees.
You could also try r-linux for windows on disk 1 (freeware) or commercial Raid recovery (also on disk 1). Most commercial software has a trial period which lets you see what it can recover.

Thank you StephenB for your fast response.
No, I doubt that I changed the defaults.
When you say "try r-linus on disk 1" are you saying that I need to remove disk 1 and connect it internally in a PC to a SATA port on my motherboard?
When you say "commercial Raid recovery" are you suggesting just googling for a paid-for tool?
Out of interest, why are you suggesting doing this to disk 1? Are disk 1 and disk 2 different?
Thank you

Yes, or connect it with a SATA->USB adapter or USB enclosure.

Yes. Some here have used ReclaiMe with success. Though I have not needed any of these tools, so I can't make a recommendation.

The two disks are formatted differently. One has a partition set up with the ext file system that the NAS uses visible. The other has the data mirrored, but it is written directly (with no partition) so it is harder to access. In the 4-bay systems this second disk is a "parity disk". Though the duo is using RAID-1, it still uses the same formatting.
Usually the disk with the partition is disk 1, but depending on the history, it could have gotten reversed.
