Rotating a third drive through the ReadyNAS for off-site stg

I've got a ReadyNAS 314 with two 4T drives (Western Digital WD40EFRX 4 TB WD Red, 3.5 inch, SATA III 5400 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM NAS Hard Drive). They're set up as RAID 1 with X-RAID turned on (the light is green).

I'd like to get a third 4T drive and swap it out for one of the current drives. Then I could store the drive I removed off-site. And then I'd plan on rotating that drive back in for one of the live drives every month. I have a few questions:

1) Is this a good idea?
2) Will it work?
3) Do I have to do anything special to make it work? I worry about the warnings in the manual about doing something that erases all my data - which I certainly don't want to do.
4) Once I'm a few months into this process, will it keep updating properly? In other words, I'll have the off-site disk with month old data on it; I'll pull one of the two identical disks out of the drive and put in the previously off-site disk: will it update with file changes that have happened in the past month correctly?

Thank you very much for your help and advice.

No, it is a very bad idea.

The SATA connectors on the back of the hard drives are not intended to be repeatedly removed and inserted.

Also, every time you swap the drives you are rebuilding the raid array on the one you swapped out from scratch. This is a time consuming process, and RAID protection is lost while it is going on.

You are far better off getting two USB drives and rotating them.
