Can I configure range extender to broadcast on different channel than router?

When I log on to mywifiext.net I see drop down arrows in the data boxes that display the channel which the extender is using to broadcast.  However, the boxes are dim and there doesn't seem to be any way to assign a different channel than what the router is using to provide the wifi signal to the extender.  When I change the router's broadcast channels (2.4 ande 5 mHz), the extender responds by mirroring the new, changed channels.  Any way to configure the range extender to transmit on a fixed channel that can be set to be different than the channel(s) I've set to be used by the router?  I've got  hardware version EX6100v2 and have updated to the latest firmware (V1.0.1.70).  The reason I'd like to set those differently is that I'm experiencing some interference (signal hunting and connection instability) with wireless devices in locations where the signal strength of the router and the wifi extender are almost the same.  (In areas where the router's signal is very faint and the extender's is strong, everthing's fine.)

Typically the extender follows the channel of the router so you wouldnt be able to change that.

Thanks for the reply.  However, what you're saying seems to contradict page 24 of my user's manual (in the section "Change the Basic WiFi Settings"), where it says, " 7. To change the wireless channel, select a number in the Channel list."  See the attached screen capture file "capture.jpg."   As I noted in my original post, the data box containing the channel number is grayed-out when I view my current settings.  However, if the channel cannot be changed, why is there a drop-down arrow at the right edge of the data box that specifies which channel is being used?
