Extender USB Printer not discovereable

I have tried to connect a USB printer to the USB port on the extender and then went into the extender settings.

  1. Under settings I went to USB port menu. I changed the option of "share content" to "share printer" and enabled "USB port on".
  2. I have also installed the Netgear USB control center on the laptop (windows 10).
  3. I have disabled all firewall and virus protection and have even went into the windows settings to allow the USB control center permission for incoming and outgoing communucations (also did the same within the firewall).

The issue is that once I save the settings in the extender settings it defaults back to "share content" and not "share printer" and the laptop which was displayed in the Netgear USB control center disappears so that I can not connect to the printer to print.

I am not sure if the automatic change in extender settings from "share printer" to "share content" is what is causing the USB control center from losing connection with the printer or something else is causing he issue.  The printer seems to be available sometimes (even with firewall active) but disappears after a few minutes and requires that I go back into the exntender settings and update it plus remove and reconned the USB cable into the extender.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It seems that Netgear did not design this USB option well at all despite charing almost 200 for the extender.

  • I had the same problem. This might sound dumb, but I turned the printer ON, and then it showed up in USB Control Center.  I also changed my network from Public to Private.  That may have helped.
