Nighthawk X6S ( EX8000 ) max connect only 866 Mbps

Hi guys,

i have successfully instald new X6S Repeater, but max connect on 5 GHz band is only 866 Mbps and not full speed 1733 Mbps as should be generaly possible. The X6S is driven by Nighthawk X8 ( R8500 ).

What is to do to get 1733 Mbps ?

Re: Nighthawk X6S ( EX8000 ) max connect only 866 Mbps

It seems to be operating as designed. The EX8000 has two 5 GHz radios. One is capable of operating at up to 1733 Mbps and the other up to 867 Mbps. When functioning as a repeater, the 1733 Mbps radio is used as a dedicated link back to the main Wi-Fi network. The 867 Mbps radio is used for clients.

If you want to use the 1733 Mbps radio for clients, then you'll need to set up the EX8000 as a wired Access Point.

Hi TheEther,

thank you very much for your answer.

I already thought in this way, but i was not sure.

By the way :  When i connect a client with a LAN-Cable with the X6S, then i should have the 1766 Mbps speed ?

Greetings,

Klaus

Re: Nighthawk X6S ( EX8000 ) max connect only 866 Mbps

Hello

I have also a simillar issue.

One of my EX8000 is set up as AP, the other one in a different room as Extender.

On the EX8000 used as AP  I had 3 Bands (1x2.4, 1x5ghz @866 , 1x5Ghz @1733).

Looking at the Extender settings I can only see 1x2.4Ghz and 1x5Ghz 866. Can't I extende the 1733 one? Is that still used by the clients from the AP or not?

Sorry. I could have sworn the manual said that the 1733 Mbps radio could be used by clients in AP mode, but now I don't see it. So, I could be mistaken.

Re: Nighthawk X6S ( EX8000 ) max connect only 866 Mbps

In AP mode you have all 3 bands available (2.4Ghz. 5Ghz@866 and 5Ghz@1733)

In Extender mode you can use only 2 bands:

2.4Ghz

5Ghz either at 866 or at 1733. It all depends on which band you want to extend.

Ex: if you choose to extend the 5Ghz@1733 than the extender and AP will connect at 866.

This is from what I saw yesterday thorugh extensive testing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
