WiFi extenders suddenly stopped working

This issue started a few days ago. My PC is connected to the internet via ethernet which goes to a Wifi extender in my room. My PC doesn't have WiFi capabilities and I can't hook directly to the router as it's too far away, but this is the next best thing and it's worked well for me up until this point. So basically my PC shows that it's connected to my network and Windows troubleshooter never detects a problem with it. The problem is that, out of the blue, nothing on my PC will load except for Google and Google apps such as YouTube or Google Docs. All other devices in the house work fine. At first I thought it was an issue with my PC, but after trying for days to fix this, I think I've narrowed the problem down to my extender or my internet.

The first thing I tried was resetting my internet and that didn't seem to change anything. I ran a bunch of troubleshooting on my PC such as resetting DNS and network settings, none of that worked either. I moved the extender to a different outlet across the room and hooked my ethernet cable from the extender to my Xbox to see if it would work. To me it seemed like my speeds were a bit slower, but I could still load games, watch twitch streams, etc. When I moved the extender back to it's original outlet and hooked it back to my PC, nothing loads still. I originally had an AC750 extender, but I ended up buying an AC1200 out of frustration, still the same issue.

Last night on a whim, I tried to connect my phone to the extender's hotspot and right away I noticed a problem. The issues were similar to what I was experiencing on my PC. I could load certain apps and webpages but connection was super slow. Eventually, after about 5 minutes. I lost internet connection all together on the hotspot and was booted back to my main WiFi connection.

This leads me to believe it's an issue with the extenders or the way they are communicating with the internet. Like I said, the extenders have worked fine up until this point. I've had my PC for over a year now running on a Netgear extender and this is the first issue I've had with it. Since it is happening with 2 separate extenders, I really have no clue what the issue could be. If anyone here could help me figure it out, that'd be awesome cus I'm almost at my whits end here. Thank you...

  • Same thing, for some reason, the extender has quit and when I connect to Wifi it asks me to create a new extender account.

Very strange as it's worked great for 4-5 years.

I try to log in and the thing just hangs....I suspect there is some new 2 factor security or something like that added/upgraded, but for whatever reason, it's not compatible with Verizon FIOS or something?

Anyone else suffering the same thing?

    Good day!

    Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

Thank you for reaching out. We are sorry to hear about your experience with the extender. May we know what are the models of your wireless extenders so we can isolate the issue?

Same issue here.  I have the MK63S AX1800 Router with 2 satellite extenders.  I unplugged and rebooted the router and the 2 extenders multiple times and even reset and attempted to set the entire system up again with no luck.  It is just 8 months old.

What makes it worse is that when I attempted to get support through the app, it shows my warranty is through May 14, 2022 but gives me no way to actually communicate with Netgear to get support.  Please help.

I think my problem is similar.  A few days ago, I noticed the 2 satellites in my MR60 Nighthawk Mesh were off-line.  The normally blue status light on the front was suddenly amber on both satellites.  I tried pulling the power plug on one for 5 seconds, but no effect. The light flashes white for a few seconds before becoming amber.  Next step was to remove power to my cable modem and remove power from the Nighthawk base router unit, but after both were powered-back up and on-line, the satellites both remain amber.  I looked for firmware updates, and it appears I was able to download one, but it fails to do anything (fails to install).  I was hoping to call or chat with Netgear Tech Support, but have not been able to find a phone number or chat box.

  • Pretty sure that was the product I got i set it up and it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do and know the only two devices I hooked up to it, can connect to the wifi but doesn't have a connection to the internet and I've tried everything any help?
