hard wired home no internet access using Docsis 3.1 Gig cable modem and AC1750 router
Netgear Gig switch
Netgear Docsis 3.1 Gig cable modem
Netgear AC1750 router
My home is hard wired. When I connect (1) ISP ---> modem ---> switch ---> router (in a different room) I cannot connect to the internet. I've confirmed that (2) ISP ---> modem ---> switch ---> directly to laptop (in a different room) will connect to the internet. I've also bypassed the switch and plugged the modem into the coax, at one of the termination spots, where (3) ISP ---> modem ---> router will get me on the internet. I need to go through the switch to take advantage of the hardwire connections at other termination points. My preference is to get (1) to work. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks

Apparently not in a useful (or, at least, in an optimal) way.

(the router) to the modem, not multiple deveces (through a switch).
What should work is: ISP ---> modem ---> router ---> switch.Whether your wiring is suited for that arrangement (leaving the
router in a central location) I can't say. If the wiring all terminates
in a bad location for the router, then you might need one more wire to
the good router location, so that you can connect a router LAN port back
to the switch.A no-new-wire alternative would be to leave the router with the modem
and switch, and add a new wireless access point (fed from the main
router or the switch), situated where you wished that you could put your
router.
