DNS R8500
1 TopicR8500 with latest V1.0.2.54_1.0.56 intermittently loses DNS
I replaced my R7000 very recently with a R8500 and am very pleased with the faster 5G speeds. I'm running the latest R8500 firmware, V1.0.2.54_1.0.56, but notice that my DNS disappears intermittently (can't surf the internet anymore). I can still ping external IP addresses like Google DNS 8.8.8.8 but DNS resolution fails on multiple PCs on my home network. The R8500 web console reports the Internet Status is GOOD but DNS isn't working. If I go to Advanced/Internet Port/Connection Status and force a connection release/renew it still doesn't fix the DNS. If I change the DNS from Google to Automatic ISP (or back again, it's not the DNS setting that matters only that it changes) then the DNS is restored. I've seen this intermittent DNS failure when using both Google DNS and my ISP's automatic DNS servers (Comcast). I also switched my Arris Tg862 cable modem to bridged mode (since I only use my R8500's wireless and DHCP) but I still experience the intermittent DNS disappearances. Any suggestions? I read the other thread "R8500-DNS-periodic-DNS-errors-failures" and that sounded similar, but the customer is using a Frontier DSL modem and set it to bridge mode to fix it for them so my issue seems to be different. I've only had the 8500 for a couple days and played with it a couple nights, seen the DNS disappear a handful of times. I don't have anymore stats or observations yet. I did not factory reset and re-enter all my settings after upgrading from the shipped V1.0.0.* firmware to V1.0.2.* firmware. I guess I could try that if I still experience DNS failures and there are no other suggestions.Solved4.9KViews0likes11Comments
