While it's great that we can designate our own DNS servers on the routers, instead of just using the ones provided by our ISPs, it would be even better if you could integrate DNS-over-TLS and/or DNS-over-HTTPS into the firmware. This would allow us to query DNS servers (e.g., Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 or Google's 8.8.8.8) without our ISPs being able to monitor our requests, giving us confidentiality from our ISPs and anyone along the path between our LAN and the DNS server; without our requests being able to be changed, ensuring integrity in the replies; and without having to run a separate service or piece of hardware on our networks for this purpose, increasing availability, at least from a certain perspective, as not everyone has the resources or ability to run their own local DNS server capable of using one of these two standards.17KViews82likes33CommentsCan I add custom DNS entries for my LAN using Orbi?
Hi, I see where I can add custom entries to DHCP (MAC address to IP address). This is great, and probably good enough for what I'm trying to do. However, I'm wondering if there is some feature that allows me to map a LAN IP Address to a hostname. I've got a bunch of computers on my network like network attached storage, linux servers, and the like. I'm getting tired of typing in the IP Address all the time I'd rather browse to https://ds916.orbilogin.net/ rather than browse to https://192.168.1.12 This is basically the orbilogin.com -> 192.168.1.1 mapping that Netgear provides. I guess I'm wondering if this is hard coded or if I can go in and add my own entries ThanksSolvedOrbi add dynamic DNS support for Google Domains
I upgraded from another router that had the option to use Google Domains as my dynamic DNS provider. Since the Orbi only has Netgear, Dyn, and No-IP i will need to run an updater on my computer. I twould be a nice feature to add to the platform in the future. https://support.google.com/domains/answer/6147083?hl=en9.4KViews16likes11CommentsProblema errore "account suspended" su sito funzionante. Possibile errore DNS
Grazie mille! Ciao, ElenaSolved8KViews0likes2CommentsDNS options for ReadyNAS?
I'm looking for some advice regarding setting up a DNS for my ReadyNAS. There is a very nice article on setting up a general website at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24829/~/readynas-os-6%3A-create-a-personal-webserver but the article ends port forwarding your external IP to your ReadyNAS. I own my domain name and would like bind my IP address to my domain name. There are a couple of apps available through OS6, does anyone have a recommendation? Has anyone done it before?Ripetitori NETGEAR multipli nella rete: quale risponde a "www.mywifiext.com"?
Salve a tutti. Grazie in anticipo, Davide ErricoSolvedWNDR4500 / Windows + Linux + NAS / cannot always reach by hostname
My network generally works well. I've got DHCP handing out IP addresses and a few fixed IP's for printers and NAS devices. I've got the following devices on my network all managed through wired and wireless connections: Windows PC's (mostly Win7) Ubuntu NAS (Buffalo Storage, WD Cloud) iPad / iPhone The biggest thorn in my side is the "random" loss of capability to access machines via their hostname (e.g. KITCHEN-PC, NAS-A). I am not running a Windows Server. All PC's connect either wirelessly to a WAP or through a hardwire connection to a switch that is hardwired into the Netgear WNDR4500. Some days (weeks?) I just lose the capability to reach shared resources (folders, NAS) on the network by hostname. The hostname could be the name of the Ubuntu box, the name of the NAS, or the name of another PC. Usually when one goes, they all go - I cannot connect to any of them by hostname. Typically, this happens on a laptop that I take back and forth from work. At work, everything is fine; all devices can be accessed by hostname. At home, not so much. For the last week, none of my devices could be reached by my laptop using their hostname, but all of them can be reached by their IP address. Yet, all of the attached devices on my WNDR4500 have names associated with their IP addresses. Is there a feature in the WNDR4500 that provides this name resolution service? DNS? WINS? ...
Hi, I am attempting to set up my FVS318Gv2 Firewall so it will block all DNS queries that are not from OpenDNS. I was using this article for reference. To do this, I created a list of outbound rules. The first two I have block all DNS for UDP and TCP. The next four allow DNS on OpenDNS IPs. According to the manual, this is the correct order "you should place the most strict rules at the top" My hope was that the allow rules would override the block rules. According to OpenDNS's Documentation: "The first rule trumps the second rule, so anything requests to OpenDNS are allowed but any DNS requests to any other IP are blocked." I've tried adding these in the reverse order and using port 53 instead of the built in services but whatever I try blocks all DNS requests. Am I adding these rules wrong? What else could I try? Here is a screenshot of my configuration (The block rules are disabled so people can use the internet, but were enabled for my setup) Thank you! -JoelSolved5.3KViews0likes5Comments
