There was a power outage at my house which turned my ReadyNAS Duo off. This has happened before so I manually powered it On but could not access FrontView or see it in RAIDar. I then accessed the boot menu to power it On and Skip Volume Check. Now, RAIDar can see it but stuck on Booting. Still can't access FrontView. Responds to pings from cmd prompt.Solved5.9KViews0likes10CommentsReadyNAS Duo V1 cannot access boot menu
Hello, I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo (says v2 on the label but is actually a v1) and I cannot access the boot menu to perform an OS reinstall. I inherited it from my Grandad who has passed away and I need to perform the OS reinstall so the administration log-in credentials will be reset to the factory default values. It's very frustrating because I have gone to the password reset webpage and when presented with the security question my Grandad setup I do actually know the answer, but despite trying several variations (acronyms, upper case first letters, nicknames etc.) I keep being told my answers are incorrect... Obviously this is a fairly old ReadyNAS now and therefore Netgear can't provide me with any technical support. To access the boot menu I have done the following procedure: 1) Completely powered off the device. 2) Pressed the reset button on the back with a paperclip (and kept it held down). 3) Powered on the device. 4) Waited for all the lights to flash so I can release the reset button - the lights never flash and therein lies my problem. I would really like to be able to use my ReadyNAS as I'm in the process of creating a backup system for all my photos and videos with the intention of being able to access them all without the computer being switched on. Thanks in advance for any help!SolvedReadyNAS Duo Recycle Bin
ReadyNAS RND2120 V2 Someone has deleted a large folder from one of the shares on the ReadyNAS Duo. Each share has a Recycle bin folder. I have looked in both. The recycle bin folder does contain some files within folder structures but it does not contain my large deleted folder (maybe more than 20GB). Why is it not there? Thank you (I have turned off my ReadyNAS Duo to prevent any writing to the disks, with a view to attempting data recovery....so I am not able to answer questions about the ReadyNAS Duo other than from memory.)5.3KViews0likes4CommentsRND2000 Duo v1 - lockup after boot - OS partition full?
(NB: reposting since it appears my original post never got published for some reason...? https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/RND2000-Duo-v1-lockup-after-boot-OS-partition-full/td-p/1447681) Hello again forum! TL;DR - think my OS partition is full. go to *** END STORY *** if you don't want to read my treatise *** START STORY *** So my ReadyNAS has decided to stop working for me. Not sure when exactly it stopped working - we weren't home for the last week - but upon returning I found a NAS that I couldn't access (Network Shares, FrontView, RAIDar, ping, etc). After troubleshooting networking issues, I attempted to power down the device via the power button to no avail. Left with no other option, I pulled the power (not much different to losing power, so...). Upon reconnection and powering up, I was overjoyed to see an email from my nas advising of the improper shutdown and a commencing RAID sync. Huzzah! I then however find that whilst I was talking to it (and it me), it stopped responding (and access via the aforementioned methods ceases to work). *** END STORY *** NAS Details (sketchy as I haven't looked recently and I don't want to power it up just to get latest info) Hardware: NETGEAR ReadyNAS Duo v1 Drives: 2 x 2TB WD RED WD20EFRX, RAID 1 Radiator Version: 4.1.15 (I think... it's been emailing me all the time to update to 4.1.16) PC Details Windows 10 Laptop, typically accessing via wirless (can jack in if required) After a bit of Googling, I find a few posts that give me the impression that it is a full OS partition. With this knowledge in hand, I'm now looking at fixing the issue but would like to have all the information at hand before I commence and potentiall brick my NAS. I do know my way around PCs, although am not familiar with *nix commands (have played with it a tiny bit many years a go on Red Hat GNOME & KDE, and I do have an Ubunto Live CD here somewhere...). I've had a ReadyNAS Duo v2 for several years now. I'm using it on a home network with several Windows PCs, and as a media player with a smart TV. Used to work brilliantly for me, but for a good few months it's been giving me a load of grief. No changes have been made to the setup that would account for it. Symptoms are as follows: If I open a Window Explorer window, it can often take about 20-30 secs to populate the window (watching the green status bar creep slowly across the top!). Other times it populates more or less instantly, as it should (there seems to be no logic as to what it will do; eg size/number of files in a particular folder). Checking a folder with a few hundred photo thumbnails? - just forget it; it will never fully refresh. I use Mozilla Thunderbird (v38.3.0) as my email client, and store all its data files locally on the ReadyNAS (in order to be able to use Thunderbird from any computer). Again, this used to work like a dream; but it's a nightmare now. It takes forever to check and download mail and resync itself, during which time the keyboard is locked; and every few minutes while using email, the program just locks up for 10-20 seconds, leaving me watching Window's little blue timer circle whatsit spinning. It always comes back to me eventually but it is so tedious (unworkable). Originally I thought my whole problem was a Thunderbird issue, as that's what affects me most; but apart from anything else, I've had extensive support from someone on a T'bird forum and he concluded that wasn't the issue. When I'm using my laptop, I regularly get read/write error mesages from the NAS. Subfolders with short filepaths (say two subfolders, total 50 characters) reproducibly work fine, but others with longer filepaths (say 4 subfolders, total still only 50 characters) usually don't; giving me messsages like "You don't have permission to save in this location - Contact the administrator to obtain permission". Documents (Word/Excel etc) will often open as read-only (sometimes pre-warning me that another user already has the document open, which is a lie!); whereas that same document will opens fine on the desktop. This particular issue happens only with the laptop, not with the desktop, and regardless of whether it's on wi-fi or hard-wired network. It's been suggested to me that it could be caused by Office processes not closing down properly and generating files which exceed the maximum path length? I realise that the above problems might be unrelated but I report them anyway... Also, as an FYI, the NAS works perfectly OK when streaming video or audio. Having just read another (related) thread in this subforum, from CougarFan, I've pre-empted a likely response(!) by running NasTester, and got the following results (they don't seem too bad to me?): NAS performance tester 1.7 http://www.808.dk/?nastester Running warmup... Running a 400MB file write on P: 5 times... Iteration 1: 14.22 MB/sec Iteration 2: 23.43 MB/sec Iteration 3: 23.22 MB/sec Iteration 4: 23.05 MB/sec Iteration 5: 24.43 MB/sec ----------------------------- Average (W): 21.67 MB/sec ----------------------------- Running a 400MB file read on P: 5 times... My question is about how the Duo copies files in an X-RAID configuration. I have a Duo v1 running RAIDiator 4.1.13 [1.00a043] 256MB [2.5-3-3-7] RAM, X-RAID redundant Originally I had 2 Seagate ST32000542AS 2TB drives (from here on known as 542AS1 and 542AS2) I replaced them with 2 Seagate ST20000DM001 2TB drive (here on known as DM0011 and DM0012) A while back 542AS2 had a couple of SMART errors. It now has 1000 SMART errors. So I bought the DM0011 and DM0012. I followed the instruction I found here on how to migrate to new drives. I installed the DM001s. Last year DM001s became full. Nothing would delete, if it was in the trash the trash never seemed to let go of it. Then DM0011 would no longer boot. Flashing green drive 1. DM0012 was fine but full. This week I replaced the DM001s with the 542ASs. The SMART errors are still there. Now 542AS1 has SMART errors. Since I have had the Duo with the 542ASs back online I have been delelting files from them that I know exist on the DM001s. My media library got duplicated on DM001s by iTunes trying to keep all the files together. This is how, I believe, the DM001s became full. The DM001s have the most recent files on them, but I can't get to those because the drives are full and DM0011 won't boot the Duo. Can I swap 542AS2 with DM0012 and have the newest files kept, the files that I deleted from the 5422AS1 deleted from the DM0012 and have newly free 500GB of space on the DM001s? Thank you in advance. Feel free to email me for clarifications. Chris PS for some reason the DM0012 won't boot the Duo either.2.3KViews0likes1Comment
