Just installed a new R7800. I am surprised to discover that it creates separate WiFi networks, one in the 2.4GHz band, the other in the 5GHz band. My previous wireless access point combined both bands under one SSID, and automatically selected the optimum frequency depending on the connected device and the signal strength. There seems to be no way of combining the two bands this way on the R7800. Or am I missing something?Solved172KViews0likes10CommentsHow to get access to 192.168.1.1?

I have a home wifi, provided by a from a non-Netgear modem/router. I want to extend the range of the wifi so that it reaches the other side of the house, and avoid the use of cables. As I have a R7000 router which I am not using at the moment (and I just upgraded to the latest firmware), I thought on putting this in the repeating mode. However, I am having 2 issues: I can only select repeating mode if I have disabled wifi security first. So, anyone will be able to connect to the extended network. When I configure the repeating, I can select the MAC of the base router, but there is no place to select the details of the wifi that the repeater has to connect to. As a result, after selecting repeating mode, I cannot connect to the Internet. Not only that, but I can no longer connect to the R7000 router, so I can only reset again to factory defaults and start again. Is there any way in which I can use a R7000 router to extend my wifi without laying cables all around my house? I used to have a $10 repeater that did this (albeit it was a bit slow).Solved68KViews0likes9CommentsHow to use daisy chain topology on Orbi Satellite ?
I have a Orbi router (RBR50) and two satellites (RBS50). When I upgrade firmware to V2.0.0.74 , I found Orbi supports daisy chain topglogy (Advanced-Advanced Setup-Wireless Settings-Backhaul Topology) I try to link satellite-A to satellite-B: first I put two satellite in a room, then reset satellite-A, then press sync button on satellite-A and satellite-B. I try it again and again, sometimes I found s-A connected s-B, but 5 mins later, it changes, s-A and s-B re-connected Orbi router directly. Does Anyone success? Thanks.SolvedHow far away can you place the Orbi Satellite?
I have a detached garage with a guest apartment above. It sits about 80 feet from my existing Comcast modem and Apple router in my 3500 SF house. I have tried two Netgear extenders with poor results. I want to be able to use a laptop, mobile devices, and Amazon Firestick in detached apartment. Will Orbi work for this application? If so, how far away can I place the satellite from the base? Will I need a second satellite for the house?SolvedNighthawk M1 battery charging problem
I have just bought a Netgear Nighthawk M1 through Telstra to enable working in the field. Plugged into the wallmount to charge and the battery seems to drain instead. It will only charge through USB which defeats the purpose of being completely mobile. There is a community discussion on this going back to 2014 but no obvious solution offered. Any suggestions?Hidden Orbi QOS settings. Do they work?
Once you are logged into your Orbi router webpage, http://orbilogin.net, the UI on the web pages does not seem to include any options for QOS settings. There is a link For "QOS Setup" If you click on "Advanced" and then "Setup" but the page it brings you to only has the option to run an OOKLA speed test and nothing esle. However, once you are logged into your Orbi router if you manually type this address into the URL, http://orbi login.net/QOS_main.htm, you can get to several pages that have more options for setting QOS priorities. My questions is, do these priorities even work? I have set several priorities, from "normal" to "highest", for various MAC addresses and the LAN ports but I don't know if they are even doing anything on my Orbi router. Are they? On the first page you can seemingly enable or disable WMM and turn "Internet access QOS" on or off. WMM is ebabled by default and Internet access QOS seems to be turned off by default. I left WMM enabled and turned Internet access QOS on becuase I assumed that if I did not turn it on the priorities I set would have no effect (assuming that they might work at all). There is also an an option to "Enable upstream QOS" which does not seemingly work. At the bottom of the page is a "SETUP QOS RULE" link which brings you to another page where you can delete or edit 30 QOS priorities that are already seeminlgly in place and where you can create new priorities. I would really appreciate someone from Netgear explaining what is going on with these semingly hidden QOS settings on the Orbo roouter. How Connect to 5G on Orbi?
My local 2.4G WiFi environment is crowded. I have some devices which support both 2.4 and 5G. I would like them to connect to the Orbi at 5G instead of 2.4. With my Nighthawk router, the 2.4 and 5G WiFi had different SSID's, so this was easy. With the Orbi, both networks share the same SSID. Surely there is SOME way to make this happen. I have thought of setting up a Guest network (with security), but when I put my own SSID on Guest, the Orbi made both 2.4 and 5G SSID's the same. Is there a way to turn off the Guest 2.4 radio? ThanksSolvedAP Mode Vs Router Mode—both seem to work
Just installed a new R7800 router. Set it up initially using default settings. I connected it to my modem with an Ethernet cable. All works as expected. Although…my modem is also a router. So what I had was a modem/router with DHCP enabled, and the R7800 with DHCP enabled. The modem/router happily gave the R7800 an IP address (192.168.1.xx) and the R7800 happily gave the devices connected to it by WiFi their own IP addresses, from a different series (10.0.0.xx). Everything worked fine. Then I read in the user manual that with the system I had, with the R7800 connected to a router, I should really be configuring the R7800 in AP Mode, not Router Mode. So, I did this, changed to AP Mode—and everything is working fine. Still. The difference is that the devices on the R7800's WiFi network now have IP addresses allocated by the modem/router, in the 192.168.1.xx series. As far as I can tell both set-ups function. But being of an **bleep** disposition I'd like to know if there are any advantages or disadvantages of the two methods. Since everything seemed to work fine with the R7800 in Router Mode, why is AP Mode even offered? Any thoughts?Solved56KViews0likes6Comments
