Firmware Update
17 TopicsVPN Setting
I'd like to see VPN Setting update in next firmware update that allows users to setup VPN with other VPN clients. While current instructions do allow for Smart DNS and shows how to create a VPN connection, it lacks today's needs. Having VPN support setting eliminates the need to run VPN on each device by allowing all connections to flow through router as one connection. Most services limit up to 3 connections at once. Having this support on my R8500 would totally eliminate the connections limit. Please consider supporting this with next firmware!24KViews15likes2CommentsRate limit by MB's for Netgear WC9500
Dear Netgear, I'm struggeling with rate limits which I would like to configure on a Wifi network which is currently installed at one of our clients. We're using a Netgear WC9500 in combination with Netgear WNDAP360 AP's. I've configured multiple SSID's, one of them is for guests. I would like to limit this SSID by MB usage instead of a percentage of the bandwith. This way I can prevent guests from hijacking the entire Internet connection. please consider this feauture in the next firmware. regards, Frank14KViews2likes1CommentNighthawk M1 Firmware Update Protocols
“Who among you would give your brother a stone when he asks for bread?” My Nighthawk M1 has been hobbled since the last OTA update NTG9X50C_10.25.01.00. I spent from 13 March to 21 March reading forums and home troubleshooting. I spent from 22 March to 24 with my service provider Telstra, by chat and by phone Tech Support. I asked for a repeat OTA to see if it was the process or the firmware. This is not possible, no explanation. The Telstra Community Forum has Technical Support Device Testing results which strongly point to the OTA process being the cause. Referred me to the Manufacturer. Telstra has been determined that my device is suffering a “major fault”, under Australian consumer law. They initially offered me the remedy to send my device to them for testing with an exchange provided, then withdrew the exchange offer. Must be without device, I refused the offer. After 2 weeks of negotiations (interrupted by Easter), and a formal complaint, I have now been offered a “Brand New Device” with a brand new contract and a waiver of hefty early cancellation penalty. I will lose my existing service and have to create a new one, an new activation new IEMI, new sim etc. New 24 month contract, 10 months into previous. It has not been made clear if the new device will arrive with NTG9X50C_10.25.01.00, functioning correctly. Best guess is sent from factory so I will have to perform the OTA. Great uncertainty. Points to consider: Device functioned on NTG9X50C_10.16.04.04 (with known limitations, eg Ethernet dropout) prior to last update. Were their test devices exposed to the NTG9X50C_10.16.04.04 prior to successful update or were they straight out of the box? Would this affect the outcome? Do Tech Support have access to the elusive firmware update files? Proper troubleshooting has not been performed due to Service Provider and Manufacturer withholding access to firmware files from customers and it appears also from their own Tech Support. The inability/unwillingness of either to provide repeat OTA for troubleshooting in concert with customers leads to wasteful practices, both in time and hardware. So many intelligent people, so little effectiveness. A shame to our collective carbon footprint.SolvedCannot access admin page
Updated several RNAS 312's with firmware 6.9.3. -Also updated a 212 with 6.9.3. After the update, RAIDar application 6.3.0 can no longer access the 312's on the internal network through login. Can access the shares via "browse" and thru ReadyCloud....but not thru local or Cloud admin page login. Did not affect the RNAS 212. Ideas? Will there be an issue when we update the firmware of the ReadyNAS from version 6.1.6 to 6.6.1? We have encountered an issue with another Netgear ReadyNAS losing the volume when we update to the latest firmware. We had logged a case with Netgear support to recover the data for that issue. We are planning to update the firmware on the NAS to see if it will fix the folder permission issue we are having. Currently we have a shared folder (UserProfile) that we cannot see the contents inside via the webui. We are able to see the contents inside if we access the shared folder via SMB on a Windows 7 PC. Please advise if anyone experience any issues updating a very old firmware on the NAS to the latest.3.5KViews0likes3CommentsWN 2000rpt problematic with drop signal and buggy firmware update
Hello, I have a Netgear wn2000rpt extender with the original firmware that drops the connection to the wireless router. This is what I have done so far: Set the RPT MAC and IP address as a static address on the Wifi router. FAIL- same issue Reset to factory Use WPS button to automatically set up router and the RPT used the same SSID and WPA2 security as the router. .FAIL- same issue Reset to factory Manually connect to the setup interface and used the wizard to configure the RPT and it uses the same SSID and WPA2 as the router. .FAIL- same issue After looking up the issues on google i tried to reconnect to the RPT using the web address www.mywifiext.net Fist on windows 7 with IE .FAIL webpage connection error Next with Chrome .FAIL webpage connection error Next on windows 10.FAIL webpage connection error on both IE and chrome Next I used an old IPAD and could connect to the RPT GUI and found out that it had the original firmware. Next I download the .24 firmware and tried to upload it but the RPT GUI could not find the file. FAIL Next the instructions said I might have to unzip the file (really for firmware?) so I attempted to unpack it using winzip Result was a readme file and and img file (that winzip saw as a zip file but could not unpack) Attempted to load the img flie with the same result as the prior FAIL Next contacted netgear support but they wanted a fee to update the RPT Firmware. FAIL- might as well put the money to a new extender but with this experience I am forced to carefully shop for a better product. So unless someone has specific instruction on how to work around all the bugs on the Netgear wn2000rpt I guess I'll use this as a door stop for now. Just to tell the story: I have a WN604 operating for YEARS in my home network, just needed 2 reboots so far after running in an error - the 2nd reboot was today (entire network was down because the WN604). So while checking if it works after reboot I just got the idea that there could be a newer firmware version available than 2.3.2 that I had - and it was: 3.3.2. I should have known, but I was in a mood to touch a running system.... The upgrade did run properly and over the cable conection I could reconnect to the WN604 after the automatic reboot. BUT MY WLAN WAS NO MORE VISIBLE FOR ANY WIRELESS DEVICE!! I tried an tried to change something - but no success. I've seen the "blue light" at the device beeing just on without any flickering. I got my WLAN back after I "updated" version 2.3.2 again - what erased all configurations.... but I found my WLAN again in the air. So I've learned once more: NEVER TOUCH A **bleep** RUNNING SYSTEM!!!!!2.7KViews0likes1CommentFirmware Frustration on CM400
About a month ago, the Netgear modem I have been using with my ISP for 2 years abruptly stopped working. After multiple tech visits out to my place, and replacing the modem with the same model to no avail, my ISP finally determined the problem to come from a recent series of upgrades to their network they did recently. They told me the firmware might be out of date on my modem--they said it should be 1.01.17 and because I did a few factory resets to make sure the modem was running properly, my firmware was downgraded to 1.01.10. If this is correct, I cannot connect to my ISP to update the firmware. Is there any possible way to update my modem? Also, if this helps, the issue with my modem has been that downstream will bond OK, but upstream will not.2.3KViews0likes1Comment
