It would be great if you could see realtime bandwidth per device for the netgear r7000, similar to Google Wifi and Eero. It would be a really useful info and diagnostic tool to see what devices are currently taking up bandwidth. It would be great if this was added to the router web administration page as well theNetgear Genie and/or Netgear Up apps. I've attached a screenshot of how this feature looks on Google Wifi.26KViews92likes13CommentsNighthawk app
Dear Netgear, I'm a proud owner of your modem router combo C7000v2. A few months ago the app that was used to manage my device was changed from the geni app to the nighthawk app. I do find the new app eisier to navigate but I miss some of the features of the old app. For example I can no longer change the wifi channel via the app. I also miss being able to rename devices on my device manager screen. Perhaps you are aware of these issues? Perhaps they would be to complicated to resolve? But if not I was wondering if you could add them in the next update of the nighthawk app. Sencerly your customer, Ammon289Views0likes1CommentOrbi app for Win10
I recently upgraded/retired three old technology Netgear devices (routers and access points) and replaced them all with the Orbi RBR750 system (Router plus two RBS Satellites). Love it! My question is about the Netgear genie app which I use on my Win10 machine, for monitoring and troubleshooting. It seems old-fashioned compared to the hi-tech Orbi. Can Genie please be updated or replaced with Orbi for Win10? Yes, I know that with Windows 10, I can open the Orbi settings through routerlogin.net, but i dont like to actually log into my router just to monitor how things are going or troubleshoot the network..... That's why I like Netgear Genie, because it gives me a visual picture of my network. And I can leave it open without exposing myself to accidental settings changes. For instance if someone (like my kids or wife) gets onto my PC (which they shouldn't) then they can't do any harm through the Genie app. thank you.168Views0likes0CommentsGenie app
Please enable column sorts in the Genie application, at least on certain pages like LAN Setup. It's not uncommon to have a long list of devices on that page and network management would be greatly aided by having the ability to list them by Name, IP or MAC address. This is now a standard feature on most table displays and it is very disappointing to see it overlooked by Netgear.173Views0likes0CommentsAdmin Password Doesn't Work for USB readyshare drive
Admin login/password is denied when accessing a hard drive connected to the modem via USB that was read/write protected in routerlogin.net. If the drive is not protected, no problem accessing via readyshare from local network, and even from Internet! But the admin login/password don't work if the drive is proteted. I exhausted all options. Followed manual, restarted, changed password, researched the topic online. Seems to be a bug. Modem is C3000. LaCie 8 TB USB HDD. Does anyone know a solution? Thanks.34KViews0likes55CommentsGenie Phone App - Allow/Deny new device connection
User Story: For security reasons I have my Netgear router (C3700) configured to allow only whitelisted MAC addresses onto the network under access control. Although secure, this method is also inconvenient to add a new device and/or guest access. Suggestion: Have the Genie app notify the user via their Android/Apple phone that a new connection was established (and immediately blocked due to explicit whitelist). Provide device name, MAC address, IP address in the notification; along with two options to approve or deny connection. If approved, the new device would have it's connection status changed to "allow" in the access control settings.198Views0likes0CommentsFeature requests: Improve Custom Names via Desktop/Mobile Apps
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS TO DEVICE NAMING CAPABILITY Note: All firmware and apps referred to below are the most current versions. The Netgear Genie/Nighthawk apps are useful tools for monitoring and managing networks, but they are in need of updates for functionality, reliability and consistency. One of the most useful features of the apps is the ability to assign custom names or "friendly" names to devices on the network; specifically device names, rather than SSID names, which are easy to change. THE ISSUES In past versions of the firmware, it was possible to rename devices using the web browser GUI under Advances > Security > Access Control > by checking the box next to a device and clicking an 'edit' button to make changes. In the most recent few versions of the firmware, this button is gone. Also, some devices display a name (and sometimes even and IP address) as " - - " even if they have been renamed in the past. This happens most frequently on routers on the network set up in access point mode, which do not reliably carry through assigned names from the main router as devices attach. This is particularly evident with wireless devices such as tablets and phones that come and go from the network. Even if a device itself and its MAC address are retained in the "allowed devices not currently connected to the network" list while not connected, the custom name doesn't always stick, and may be lost after a reboot. In the desktop version of the Genie app, some devices can be renamed and others cannot, particularly routers, either the router at the center of the network or those serving as access points/repeaters/extenders. And some devices, even when renamed, do not display the name on the network map... currently, you have to click into it to find the display name. Similarly, in the mobile apps (both Genie and Nighthawk), some devices can be renamed and others cannot, and names of renamed devices do not "stick" or migrate to other routers in the network. Some do not display custom names on the network map on the Genie app, and some custom name fields do not respond to a user touch to open them on the Nighthawk app. Finally, after renaming a device on the apps, the system sometimes will arbitrarily switch the device type/icon to a different type of device. THE RATIONALE For some home users and many business users, the ability to label devices with custom names is an important function, because: It allows easy identification of devices logging on to the network without having to cross-reference MAC addresses, It allows a network manager the ability to monitor devices joining/leaving the network and quickly block devices (especially intruders), and, It provides the ability to quickly re-establish and monitor the network in the event of a component failure or a loss of power. THE FEATURE REQUESTS In the next version of the firmware, restore the 'edit' button in the access control panel, to allow devices to be renamed in the web browser GUI. Ensure custom names propagate through a network of routers, including those in access point mode and repeaters/extenders. Allow any device on the network to be renamed, including the main router itself. Ensure all devices with custom names display that name below their icon in the network map on the desktop and mobile Genie apps. If no custom device type has been entered, automatic detection is fine, but if a device type has been changed by the user, the user's definition should override future attempts to automatically detect. For many users, Netgear's apps are very useful, particularly because OEM network monitoring interfaces are often poor. By improving the flexibility and reliability of the apps, they can remain useful tools far into the future. After reviewing posts here in the community, it appears several users have been making similar requests for some time. Please ask the development team to implement these ideas in the next version of the firmware and mobile apps. Thank you for your consideration.2.8KViews0likes2Comments
