We just upgraded our RN 104 with 2 new 8 TB disks: Seagate Archive HDD v2 8TB, SATA 6Gb/s (ST8000AS0002) They are working fine, but I was having problems fixing them to the disk tray. New HDDs seem not anymore to be fitted with the middle screw hole on the sides, where a nozzle of the plastic tray of the RN104 should fit in. In some FAQ here I found the advice to remove the plastic part of the tray and fix the disk(s) with screws. Actually I would have been able to mount only two screws at the bottom side, where screwholes from the tray and the disk matched. But I did not have matching screws in my PC screws box, they were all either too long or having the wrong thread. So I fixed them without screws. After taking the plastic part out of the tray, I removed the two nozzles using a knife with serrated blade, leaving a very small bump, put the plastic part back in and fixed the disk. It is very firm and quiet in the tray now.WD60EFRX WD Red 6TB For ReadyNAS104?
Fry's has started offering the WD 6TB Network NAS HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache for $239. I know this new drive is not on the official compatibility list. Will the RN104 support 6TB drives? If so, how long will it take for this drive to be evaluated/approved? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810#Tab3Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 2TB 64MB Cache
I have looked through the list of compatiblue drive for the Ultra 4+ and the make and model of drives I have is the HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642 (0f12115) 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive.I was wondering how up to date is the compatability list since this drive is not listed. Should I assume this drive will not work or that the list is out of date? Has anyone tried using HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642 drive in the Ultra 4+? ThanksUpgrade NV+ v2 (Firmware 5.3.1.1) from 4x2TB to largest possible
I have 4x2TB currently installed. I understand that there are maximum disc size and maximum upgrade capacities. Can I go larger than the 4TB Reds on the compatibility list? How to I best perform the upgrade with all 4 bays occupied? I'm not knowledgeable in this area, so please take that into consideration.Dead Motherborad on Readynas Ultra 4 Plus (RNDP400U)
Hello, I have Readynas Ultra 4 Plus which I use from time to time(Turn on only when I need it) But box was connected to power outlet and to Ethernet for a WOL purpose. Unfortunately One day (probably by surge) I couldn't turn it on. At the beginning I though it was bad psu but when I open it and inspect parts there was couple of damage on motherboard. First one of Ethernet chips was blown(this to where ethernet cable was pluged in) second condenser and coil all of those was burned. But replacing those thing didn't change anything. Maybe someone of you have motherboard diagram to this box? It will help to diagnose. But anyway the problem was how to get data back. I try to look for a same box but without luck so I decided to buy 6 bay unit. So I grab one of those Ultra 6 but not Plus. Same architecture but less power. Affraid that when I put hdd's new unit will erase all data i run machine. On machine was older firmware than I have in old box but it was no problem. Machine run great without any issues and even with all settings from old Ultra 4 plus. So if you have same problem as mine have broken box and need restore data try to buy same box or greater from same architecture. For Ultra 4 Plus work Ultra 4, Ultra 4 Pro, Ultra 6, Ultra 6 plus, Ultra 6 Pro. For Ultra 2 even more option all line Ultra 4 and Ultra 6. If you have motherboard diagram to Ultra 4 plus (RNDP400U) or have good motherboard and want to sell it or even If you had same situation and know how to fix it please let me know. I would like to fix my old box. Good luck with your boxes!!WD Red 8TB WD80EFZX working on ReadyNAS Ultra 2
Hi, just to let anyone who is interested know, I upgraded the disks in my Ultra 2 to 2x WD Red 8TB. I'm running OS 6.5.0. The array resynced and the volume expanded to 8TB as expected. Seems to be working so far. My only slight disappointment is that the disks are substantially nosier than the Seagate 4TB NAS HDDs that they replaced. Probably will move my NAS so it's not on a shelf at head height.Avoid Seagate ST8000VN0002 - Horrible noise issue!
Hi, I have installed four of the Seagate ST8000VN0002 in my RN716x and just finished the resync of all disks. Unfortunately I now have an annoying beeping/humming noise when the disks are idling. It's a pretty bothersome frequency and really nerve wrecking. As soon as there is some read or write access this humming disappears and the normal known sound of harddisks can be heard which is ok. But the humming sound is so annoying that I can absolutely not recommend these disks at all. You should stay away from them. Hope it helps Campus
