4 Topicsconfiguring the FVS318Gv2 for IPv6
I have a new FVS318Gv2 with the very latest firmware update, everything is running fine. Am now experimenting with some of the settings (I know, I should leave well enough alone!), and am confused about the IPv6 configuration. My ISP, Spectrum (formely Time Warner Cable) has rolled out IPv6, I've confirmed this by looking at the status on my Netgear Cable modem (and reading Spectrum online documentation). According to the Netgear reference manual, to change to IPv6 in the Prosafe you go to Network Configuration>WAN Settings>WAN mode and change the Routing Mode from "IPv4 Only" to "IPv4 / IPv6 mode." That part went fine, the router rebooted and came back online. The second part involves going to the next tab over, "Broadband ISP settings," and clicking the "IPv6" radio button in the upper right. For the Internet Address dropdown menu I"ve chosen DHCPv6 and selected the "Stateless Address Auto Configuration" radio button below. When I click the "apply" button at the bottom it says "Operation succeeded." When I click "status" it shows a good connection with an IPv6 address. But when I click out of that tab to somewhere else in the admin, it goes back to showing the "IPv4" radio button selected in the upper right. It's like the IPv6 settings I just saved get undone as soon as I leave. Any insights as to why this might be happening? Thanks.1.9KViews0likes3CommentsFVS318N allow login "By Source IP" with IPV6 address
Hi All - I'm trying to enable limited WAN side administration of my firewall by specifying IPs to allow. I have this working great on IPv4 from my work machine but my home computer (Comcast) only reports IPV6 on whatismyip.com so I guess I need to control it that way too...? I click menu banner Users Then select my admin user (the default admin is disabled and I'm using one I created) and open policies. Click to tab "By Source IP Address" Documentation all shows a IPV4 | IPV6 radio selector in upper right but I don't have that and the spot to enter addresses only has IPv4 octets. My LAN side is all IPV4. I thought maybe setting the router to "IPV4 / IPV6 mode" might enable the selection but it does not. Other Network config screens like WAN Settings (where docs also show the radio selector) give me separate tabs for 4 vs 6. Am I missing a step? Maybe I need a firmwear upgrade. It is on 4.0.1-67 which may be pretty old? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!Solved4.8KViews0likes7CommentsWAN IPv6 Prefix Delegation doesn't work
I bought recently a new FVS328Gv2 as replacment for an older D-Link DIR-825. The FVS318Gv2 is connected to an AVM Fritz!Box 6490 which is the internet access router of my provider. The Fritz!Box 6490 allows to use a second router on its LAN side and offers an IPv6 subnet prefix via prefix delegation. This IPv6 prefix delegation has been working well with my DIR-825 so the Fritz!Box seams to be setup properly by me. Let me now explain the steps taken with my new FVS328Gv2: 1. Unboxed the device and checked that it has FW Version 4.3.1-11 2. Upgraded to the latest version from netgear portal 3. Now the FVS328Gv2 is using FW Version 4.3.4-2 4. Setup IPv4 WAN via DHCP -> works fine Fritz!Box 6490 delivers address, gateway and DNS to FVS328Gv2 Access to the internet is working and at good performance rate. Fritz!Box 6490 has a static IPv4 route into my private LAN on FVS328Gv2. 5. Setup IPv6 WAN via DHCPv6 with IPv6 Prefix Delegation -> *** does not work *** FVS328Gv2 gets an IPv6 address and gateway (the Fritz!Box 6490). But WAN link status remains on 'connecting... ' and never ends. Some time later it gets a primary DNS server (the Fritz!Box 6490). But WAN link status remains on 'connecting... ' and never ends. I never see a delegated prefix on the LAN configuration pages of the FVS328Gv2. So I can't get IPv6 internet access from the LAN side of the FVS328Gv2. The Fritz!Box does not offer static IPv6 routes so setup the FVS328Gv2 WAN manually will not work. Note: The Fritz!Box gets an IPv6 prefix of length 62 from my ISP. The former DIR-825 has been assigned properly a sub-prefix of the 63 by the Fritz!Box. What am I doing wrong? Hope for any help. So I am replacing my Asus rt-ac87u with the ProSafe firewall. The Asus is reconfigured to be just an access point. Everything is up with the exception of ipv6. From what I am seeing/reading, there seems to be a problem with the FVS318G in that it is only sending one ipv6 DHCPV6 request. Thing is, I need to request the IP for the WAN (stateful DHCPV6) and request the prefix delegation for the LAN (stateless DHCPV6-PD). This worked perfectly with my Asus. On the Netgear, I am unable to select Prefix Delegation if stateful is selected for DHCPV6. grrr. I'm pretty sure, if I could get the Netgear to send that PD request when doing stateful, it will also receive the delegated network that can be used on the LAN. Has anyone successfully got this box to connect to Comcast via IPv6 and do delegation/routing? Brian AndrusSolved4.1KViews0likes3Comments
