Connecting to Comcast with IPv6

So I am replacing my Asus rt-ac87u with the ProSafe firewall. The Asus is reconfigured to be just an access point.
Everything is up with the exception of ipv6.
From what I am seeing/reading, there seems to be a problem with the FVS318G in that it is only sending one ipv6 DHCPV6 request.
Thing is, I need to request the IP for the WAN (stateful DHCPV6) and request the prefix delegation for the LAN (stateless DHCPV6-PD).
This worked perfectly with my Asus. On the Netgear, I am unable to select Prefix Delegation if stateful is selected for DHCPV6. grrr.
I'm pretty sure, if I could get the Netgear to send that PD request when doing stateful, it will also receive the delegated network that can be used on the LAN.

Has anyone successfully got this box to connect to Comcast via IPv6 and do delegation/routing?

  • Hi brianandrus,

    Welcome to the community! :)

    I believe the Prefix Delegation box can only be selected when you choose the Stateless Address Auto Configuration.  Kindly check pages 40-42 of the FVS318Gv2 reference manual here

    What is the current firmware version of your FVS318Gv2?

      DaneA,

      I have firmware 4.3.3-8.

      The things I am finding odd are:

      With Stateless Address Auto Configuration with Prefix Delegation:
      WAN: fe80::a62b:8cff:fef9:b7b3/64
      LAN: 2601:642:c202:4451:a62b:8cff:fef9:b7b2 / 64, fc00::1 / 64, fe80::a62b:8cff:fef9:b7b2 / 64
      RADVD IPv6 Prefix: 2601:642:c202:4451::

      On my computer, I am getting:
      Connection-specific DNS Suffix: netgear.com
      IPv6 Address: 2601:642:c202:4451:819c:6405:9ca3:50b0
      Temporary IPv6 Address: 2601:642:c202:4451:448:a9a8:7720:aeaf
      Link-local IPv6 Address: fe80::819c:6405:9ca3:50b0%4
      IPv6 Default Gateway: fe80::a62b:8cff:fef9:b7b2%4
      IPv6 DNS Server:

      If I switch the ISP settings to Stateful, I get a different WAN address of 2001:558:6045:1c:65b7:785d:9b1d:4002/64, fe80::a62b:8cff:fef9:b7b3/64

      I think the Stateless is right, but I am getting that link-local assigned to the lan and it is being announced as the gateway, which does not work.

      Must have been me. It looks like it is happy now and I am getting 10/10 for readiness..

      Thanks

      Brian
