I would love to see you add a way to import site settings to a newly created site. When I add a new site to my existing Engage Controller instance I cannot import my desired site settings. I would mainly like to be able to export and import the Network Profiles, but all the Site Settings would be great. My current workaround is to add one of the switches with those profiles from another site to populate the Profiles in the new site and then move it back. It’s a bit clunky but it works until a better way can be added. -Thank you7Views0likes0CommentsImprove Web GUI for VLAN Memberships
When configuring VLAN Memberships with LAG, it is not clear if I have to define the ports as well. Some switches (GS324, GS724v6) allow me to do it, but when I define "T", it automatically changes to "U" which is definitely wrong for most of the VLANs. That is very confusing and I had some strange, not reproducible behavior at some point when I left them at "U". According to Lyn from Netgear Support who was very helpful on a weekend, you do not have to define the VLAN Membership of Ports which are LAG members. My Idea: Mark the ports on that page with the number of the LAG or just "L" and do not let the user change them. Then it's clear for everyone. P.S. In some Netgear switches, the ports automatically gets the TAG from the LAG. That is somehow inconsistent and adds to the confusion.9Views0likes0CommentsNTP Server functionality on M4000 series switches
It would be useful to enable NTP server functionality on M4000 series switches to enable all devices on our LANs to be able to obtain a single time source from the switch. The LANs we install do not routinely contain routers or PCs to offer time NTP services and so the switch represents a logical central point for client devices to pull NTP services from.7Views0likes0CommentsTrunk Port for 802.1X
We have about 120 Netgear GS110TPv3 switches in use for connecting end user equipment. The switches are great because they support 802.1X, allowing us to dynamically assign VLANs to ports. The Disadvantage is that we also need GVRP because there is no way to set the uplink port as "General trunk port" or "Uplink port" (or is there a way I do not know?). It would be great if I can set a port to "Uplink" or "Trunk Port" and the switch is adding this port tagged to all known and learned VLANs (like VLANs learned via 802.1X) automatically.728Views0likes1CommentSSH key authentication on M4300
Hi, I have lots of different devices from different vendors in my network (HP/Aruba, Cisco, FortiNet, pfSense, ...) - and our Netgear M4300 devices are the ONLY ones that cannot do key based authentication for ssh. I use ssh to do regular config backup using oxidized, and it really bugs me that I have to store plaintext passwords for the Netgear devices. Are there any plans to implement ssh key based authentication? thanks, Markus1KViews0likes0CommentsPlease add DHCP reservation feature to switch M4300
As the core of LAN, L3 switch really needs DHCP reservation, which is indispensable. It's well-known that switch is the most stable hardware in network. It's more likely for a bare-metal server goes down than a switch does. If M4300 has DHCP reservation feature, we can transfer the DHCP server from a PC to the switch, which could enhance the stability and convenience for management of the network significantly. At present, in "System-Services-DHCP Pool Configuration", I have to create ONE "manual_pool" for EACH MAC-IP mapping. It's REALLY tedious and boring. I think you can add at least two features to improve the situation. 1. Re-design "System-Services-DHCP Pool Configuration-Type of binding-manual" in the web-gui, and allow people to add multiple MAC-IP-GATEWAY-DNS-NETBIOS mappings to one 'manual_pool'. For example: https://i.loli.net/2020/04/03/lotb2NgSHzwpqIL.png In this way, users can easily add or remove records by clicking the '+' or '-' button ahead of each line. 2. Add a new command to load an external text-based datebase which contains all the information stated above from a USB flash drive or tftp server. In this way, users can create and modify the text-based database using their favorite text-editor and then upload it to the switch. It would be great if the developers can add the features I stated above to M4300. Thanks a lot.1.4KViews4likes1CommentSwitch Temperature Alerts
Please allow for temperature alerts and also custom temperature alerts for Netgear switches. I'd like to be able to have a temperature alert sent to the IT team of an overheating switch while also having an automated email sent to the site manager for their awareness. This feature would be great for Insight-managed switches or any switch for that matter. Temperature alerts are critical and can be a business stopper.1.7KViews0likes1CommentManagement VLAN Support on Plus Series
I have an issue where if I create a tagged VLAN on a JGS516PE, GS108PE, & JGS524PE switch on the uplink port then it will pull an IP from that tagged VLAN as its management VLAN. e.g. I have VLAN1 - 192.168.1.0/24 - untagged and VLAN100 - 192.168.100.0/24 - tagged then the switch will grab 192.168.100.25 as a management VLAN. I created a ticket with Netgear support on this issue and I was told that the switch was sending out DHCP requests for each VLAN and which ever it recieved back first it would take and ignore the rest. The solution was to assign a static IP since the Plus series doesn't support management VLAN changes. I believe assigning a static is a patch to an issue that shouldn't exist. I know a change in the way that we do the initial setup will allow us to know which static we need to use before we deploy the switch with tagging but it has been an issue before and we had to create inter-VLAN routing to be able to get back to the switch and manage it.589Views1like0CommentsM4100: scheduled config save via encrypted connection (needs telnet up to now..)
Hello everybody, we would like to use NMS300 to save the config of our 40 Netgear Switches (M4100 series, different models) automatically every night, but this requires telnet to be enabled on all switches (confirmed by Netgear Expert Bruce_G: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Managed-Switches/NMS300-config-backup-with-telnet-disabled/m-p/1161992/thread-id/2682#M2753) I think that transmitting a password for administrative access in cleartext over the network isn't best practice, especially for a product which claims to be enterprise ready. Would you please implement an option for a scheduled config saving and other mass actions like firmware update for all switches via an encrypted conection? It should be possible to disable telnet on the switches without disabling any funcionality (apart from logging in via telnet of course..) ;-) Thanks in advance! Kind Regards Christoph Peus16KViews2likes2Comments
