354 TopicsProblems w/ New WiFi 6 Nighthawk 8AX - EAX80 Range Extender w/ New WiFi 6 Nighthawk AX12 - RAX200
Please help. I am a long time Netgear customer, and have been buying Netgear products since the early 2000s. Upon receiving my Nighthawk AX8 (EAX80) and configuring it I found myself fairly disappointed. I'm hoping to find a solution to my issue, or a promise it will be resolved soon or else I'm going to return this product. A little background about my home and myself. I have 1gbps internet fiber connection from Sonic.net, a smartTV, AppleTV, several game consoles, apple "I" devices/ watches, and IoT devices, kindles, etc... You might say I'm a heavy user, we even have port forwarding and static IPs set up as well for game servers. I also have a background in computer engineering, and reguallarly do software web architecture level work as part of my job. I understand IP4 really well, and have set up a few dozen networks in my life. Over the last few years I've set up 2 Orbi systems and saw how amazing Mesh Networking was and couldn't wait to get it in my home, however, the Orbi system does not have the configurability that I need -- it's great for basic internet, but it can't handle the features that I am used to on a full featured router. With the announcement of WiFi 6 I was excited to upgrade to increased range, and improve the peformance with the 40-50 devices on my local network. Again Orbi seemed targeted to more modest users, and so I waited for the Netgear Nighthawk WiFi 6 AX12 ( RAX200 ). I also bought a Netgear Nighthawk SX10 Pro Gaming Switch ( GS810EMX-100NAS ), because the AX12 didn't have enough ethernet ports on it. The AX12 has been a modest upgrade from the X10 ( R9000 ) that it replaced. In the month that I was waiting I updated some of the cables so I could get the 2.5 Multi-Gig bandwidth that the SX10 Switch and the AX12 router support. Now comes the AX8 Extender and it comes with minimal instructions, it seems to only have 4x 1 Gig ports, and so far it's performance has been poor at best. I have tried the device in a few different configurations and locations and here is what I have found, with my iPhone 11 Pro using Speedtest to Sonic.net's servers. Placed the Ext in the kitchen, the router is 1 room away separated by 1-2 walls or about 25-35ft. In this case I get about 15-30% (100-200mbps) of my max performance standing right next to it. To the Master Bedroom 1 room / 2 walls away / 15-20 ft away, the bandwith get's cut to 5-8% ( 40-80mbps ). Placed in the Office, the router is 1 room + a hallway away, separated by 2-3 walls or about 35-50 ft. The bandwidth stadning right next to it was 2-6% of my available bandwith ( 20-60mbps ), and stadning in the bedroom was about 20 mbps. Placed in the Bedroom, the performance was about the same as the office, just flipped. Since, I have a 1gbps Cat-6 connection in the Office, I tried to connect the AX8 Extender in the ethernet connection, but then the bandwith drops to ZERO (0). I think this is because of a loop that's created, and the SX10 Switch might be killing the port. I looked for a wired back haul ethernet setting in the AX8's web interface but there is not one. I know that even the Orbi's now support a wired backhaul. Netgear my Goal was simple, get WiFi 6 level performance under ONE Single SSID for my whole home. As of now I have switched back to using the AX12 (R9000) Router, and using my Nighthawk AC1900 (R7000) in AP Mode with a second SSID. How do I get to WiFi 6 level performance ( 300mpbs - 1gpbs+ ) on a single SSID, and keep the ability to have port forwarding? Is it possible to have a wired backhaul with the AX8? Will it ever be possible? Is it possible to have my R7000 in a Mesh Networking mode so I can have a single SSID? Is it possible to run the ORBI WiFi 6 edition nodes and have a wired backhaul with my R9000 and have a signle SSID? Is Netgear coming out with a new product that better addresses these needs? Will the AX8 be improved, was it launched in a buggy state and these issues will be fixed soon? Hello Range extender recently upgraded to latest release version EX7000-V1.0.1.78_1.0.140. Now the extender keeps on dropping off usually for around few seconds. The signal received from Linksys AP is showing 4 bars on channel 6,2.4ghz. On my phone connected to same ssid, I can see the signal noise ratio is -68dbm. The next closests AP on channel 6 is -80dbm. I tried moving to other channels like 1,11 but still same issue My PC is connected extender ethernet LAN cable. I have ping running to Linksys AP. ie PC--LAN---Extender------wifi ssid 2.4-------Linksys AP I also have my phone connected to linksys AP on same ssid that extender is connected on ie mobile--------------wifi ssid 2.4-------------Linksys AP My phone also has ping running to linksys AP. When the ping on PC drops, I can see extender has lost connection to linksys AP. However, at same time, my mobile is still connected. No ping lost. This seems to be extender issue and it has only happen after upgrade. I tried downloading to older release but extender doesnt allow install of older release. It simply cant install. So I have reverted back to latest. I dont have support contract. how to get netgear look into their latest firmware. Hi all, I have read about multiple issued relating to the R8000 but I seem to be experiencing a similar issue with your EX8000 mesh range extender.I regularly experience an issue (perhaps once an hour) where I lose interernet connection for about 10 - 30 seconds. My connection to the Wifi is always connected it seems to drop the connection between extended and router. Other details - I have an Arrius Surfboard router as my cable modem and bought the extender to improve the range upstairs in my house. - I have manually setup the extender to connect to both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands in a mesh configuration. - Security is WPA-PSK [AE]. - I have good signal from router to extender and a very strong signal to my devices i.e laptop, android phones/tablets and other such devices. (I have to admit the power of this device is fantastic.) - I have made sure there are no IP conflicts (DHCP for devices and static and differet addressed for mesh and router). - Firmward is 1.0.0.126. - I do not experience any issues of dropping if I use just the router (without the extender) I hope someone has a fix, otherwise I will have to return to Amazon as faulty. It is 2019 and it is still at it. The EX7000 Range extender is still having issues after firmware update!!! Even after following all the suggestions and fixes from 2018 and 2015 from all the good people of ths community, it is still a failure! Internet connectivity issues are still happening even with a good connection between the device (PC, phone, tablet) and the extender as well a a good connection between the extender and the router. I have a dual band R7800 (AC2600) roouter. I was considering purchasing an EX800 but had a couple of questions that I can't find the answer too. 1. I know if I had a tri band router then one of the 5GHz channels is used for backhaul and then I have full use of the other 5GHz and the 2.4Ghz channels. But since I have a dual band router, how does it work? Is the 5GHz not available to my devices or would that single 5Ghz channel be shared with backhaul and connections to devices? 2. I am pretty sure wired backhaul isn't possible with the EX8000 (which is dissapointing, especially since I have a dual band router), but I have read that a wired connection back to the router is an option in AP mode and that I can configure it to have the same SSID as the router. So how would this differ from a mesh extension with the EX8000 in extender mode. If I had a wireless device connected to the router would it seamlessly move to the EX8000 when I moved away from the router and behave like a mesh network? I have an AC1900 Nighthawk on the main level of my house with an AC1900 Extender in my basement and had the 2.4g and 5g bands separate. That was working fine, but on the other end of our house we recently installed some Nest equipment, another Alexa, and two TVs with streaming. We noticed that after those were installed, sometimes Nest or the TV would buffer for around 30 seconds but would eventually connect. I thought a good solution would be to purchase a new extender (the AC3000) and I installed it close to the newer devices on the other side of the house. When I did that, I went online and read several articles about naming my SSID the same for all bands vs keeping them separate. I decided to combine them into one SSID so now with the three devices, the buffering has decreased somewhat but I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing so I had some questions for you network experts. 1. When I have one SSID, how does the overall system assign devices? Would it matter if for some reason one of the devices on the other end of the house somehow connected to the main router? What if that happens and the signal later degrades? Will it somehow shift over to the nearest extender? I assume I want the devices on the other side of the house to attach to the extender, right? Or does that matter? 2. Is there an advantage to creating six separate SSIDs (2G Main, 5G Main, 2G OtherEnd, 5G OtherEnd, 2G Basement, 5G Basement) and forcing the stationary devices in each respective area like Alexa, TV, Bose, XBOX, etc to connect to a single SSID while just advising visitors to attach to whatever network is the strongest when they select it? I've googled all over the place but I haven't found answers to my specific questions. I apologize for being unaware, so thanks for the help.1.5KViews2likes2Comments
