ReadyNas214 display garbled GlegodVEMDev
1 TopicRedyNAS 214 initial setup problem
I got a ReadyNas 214 for my birthday yesterday. Please bear with me as it's my first NAS device, but I do have a complete home network that I wired myself and am well versed enough to have multiple windows, macbooks, android devices, and iphones, etc, as I write software for a living... I plugged it in without any disks in it and got an message on the front display "GlegodVEMDev" and it would not power off so I unplugged it. I put in 1 (almost brand new, a month old) 3TB Segate Barricuda (ST3000DM001) drive. and after several hours It displayed an IP address on the front display. During this time I had run to the store and bought 3 more identical hard drives. Again no matter how many times I pressed the power button it would not gracefully turn off, so I had to pull the power cord. I moved the box to it's permenant home location where I intend for it to live, and hooked up the ethernet cable to it this time. When I powered on the unit it still had the "GlegodVEMDev" so I let it sit for about 4 hours and nothing changed. It was not discoverable on my network, so I tried to power it off and I could not turn it off no matter how many times I hit the power button, or the any combination of buttons on the front. I pulled the power cord out again, and removed all the drives. Same message displays on the front after a hard power cycle. I held the reset button in the back with a paper clip, and plugged the unit in, and this time it displays "tegtededdddd" on the front. if I hit the backup button it changes to random things that are unreadable/garbled. When the box boots it briefly displays "ddddWelgomev" with all 4 drive lights on, then the message changes to "Footmngnnmev" and finaly back to "GlegodVEMDev" I'm going to let it jsut sit overnight and see if I get an IP address when I get up in the morning. If not, I'll be checking back here, and probably try pulling all the drives and rebooting the ReadyNAS 214, and calling tech support. Any help is appreciated.Solved
