I understand that there is an issue with detecting the USB adapter when on Windows 10 during the installation which has been solved. I just finished building my PC and currently using Windows 10 Pro. I’ve tried tutorials to fix it but I can’t follow all the steps that are shown as they’re using the regular windows 10. So after a Firmware update (either Telstra or Netegar, not sure who is the culprit!) on the Nighthwak M1, USB tethering connectitvity stopped for Linux-based OSs (excluding MAC OS of course). Tested on Ubuntu / Debian etc. Big thanks to Uebernerd (Post 135 on https://community.netgear.com/t5/Mobile-Routers-Hotspots-Modems/Netgear-810-update/m-p/1251948 ) In short, Linux does not pick up the correct bConfigurationValue for cdc_ether (it sets it as "1" and not "3"), which stops tethering from working. Instead of using my two Nighthawk M1s as doorstops, I have managed to get them back up and running. The following script can be modified to monitor dmesg (throw in a "while" etc.): #!/bin/bash usb_port=`dmesg | grep MR1100 | egrep -o '[0-9]+\-[0-9]+'` if [ "$usb_port" != "" ]; then echo 3 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/$usb_port/bConfigurationValue fi Obviously this will require running with super-user privileges. It's a cludgy workaround, so if anyone knows how to make this more permanent, please feel free to respond to this post! CheersWill R7000 connection to USB printer work for both wireless and wired computers?
I currently have a Windows 10 computer connected by Ethernet cable to my R7000 router. The computer currently connects to my printer's one USB port. When I change use of that USB port to connect to the router, will the cabled computer be able to access the printer through the Ethernet-to-router-to-printer route? My purpose is to print with my WiFi laptops.Solved4.1KViews0likes5CommentsNo more recessed USB ports
I've had two USB thumb drives overheat and crash (consistantly). Here are the model numbers: 1.) A super-mini thumb drive by Lexmark (32GB, USB3.0 JumpDrive S45 - LJDS45-32GABEU (I liked the low profile, but it clearly couldn't dissipate heat as the USB port on the R9000 is recessed... 2.) A longer thumb drive by Sandisk that has a metal housing (32GB USB3.0 Ultra Flair SDCZ73-032G) which I thought could dissipate heat, but it just can't... The only solution to this is a USB extension cable. NetGear's KnowledgeBase regarding "tested USB drives" is terribly short, and woefully incomplete: https://kb.netgear.com/18985/Will-my-USB-drive-work-with-ReadySHARE (it refers to the "SanDisk 64GB" as being compatible, but it DOES NOT give the model number like it does for every other device listed) The R9000's two USB3.0 ports are positioned under the router's overhanging plastic chasis. This does not allow for heat to disapate from the pen drives, which become too hot to touch. I recomend that future models have the USB ports flush with the router's outermost walls.5.4KViews1like0CommentsBackup to USB drive fails
I have tried to use a Powered Seagate USB drive (Mystorage 3.0) to backup the data folders on our Netgear Readynas 314. The external backup drive has been cleanly formatted with Seagate's Format utility as FAT32. The drive initially displays as a volume in the ReadyNAS and I setup a backup and click start. After 5-10 mins it fails saying unable to create files/folders on drive. Then the drive disappears as a volume until I reboot the NAS drive. We have the latest bios and the Seagate external drive works fine on several laptops and PC's.2.5KViews0likes11CommentsConnecting router to external USB drive
I'm trying to add my external USB HD to the router and am running into a few problems: 1) I don't know if I can use it to backup via Time Machine or only for additional storage? I followed the Time Machine guide to partition the USB drive. I'd like to be able to store backups on it. Is this possible? 2) I attached the USB drive to my router and reach the point to connect to server and keep getting an error that my MacBook cannot connect. I opened Genie and everything is good, so I'm unsure as to what the problem is. MacBook Pro Late 2011 macOS High Sierra 10.13 Just updated Genie to 2.4.26 Any help appreciated. Thanks.1.8KViews0likes4CommentsReadynas 102 restarts services constantly - unable to access data.
My ReadyNas 102 running firmware 6.7.4, seems to be constantly restarting services. I'm sometimes able to see the shares... sometimes even get a few files..., but then it "disappears" and the network location is gone. ... until a minute or so later. Even the web-ui ... I'm sometimes able to see the status-screen before it jumps back into a loading-page waiting for the ui to become responsive again. I've tried reinstalling the OS, but it didn't work. I was thinking about flashing new firmware, but that requires the services to be open long enough for the process to finish.... Is it possible to connect the drive to a computer - windows or linux... and get the data through USB? The drive seems to be ok, although; It's the remains of a degraded RAID-1 setup. Thanks for all advice..Solved1.4KViews0likes6CommentsUnable to share an available network folder

I have installed software version 1.0.0.36 as recommended on this forum, I have set the USB Speed to 3.0 in the Advanced tab, I have disabled the NetgearUSBSwitch process from Start-up, and probably a few other things too which escape me at this hour, but I still only get a slow 54Mb/s connection speed. After the installation of the software v1.0.0.36 the connection speed did go up to 144Mb/s and all was good, but the next start up of my PC and all back as it was. Any suggestion would be gratefully received as I'm just about to purchase another manufacturers Wi-Fi Adapter. Thanks in advance.Solved11KViews0likes5Comments
