Yesterday I installed my WN3000RP range extender with the help of Netgear TS. The install created a new WiFi network connection with _EXT after my network name. So the range extender is using that _EXT network. I don't get that, as all my devices are on the regular home network. How is this helping to extend the range for my home devices???56KViews0likes3CommentsCan't access admin page (www.mywifiext.net)
After wasting my time for 30 minutes trying to get www.mywifiext.net to work, here's what I did: --I had already set up the WN3500RP using WPS. --Connected to the WN3500RP via Ethernet (i.e. ran a CAT6 cable from my laptop to the Ethernet port on the WN3500RP). --Went into my router's DHCP table to get the IP address of the WN3500RP. --Entered the IP address as the URL (e.g. 192.168.1.144). --Changed the WN3500RP to use a static IP address outside the range of my router's DHCP list (e.g. 192.168.1.163). That way it will always be at .163 so I don't have to hunt for it every time I want to access the admin page. --Entered the new static IP address as the URL (e.g. 192.168.1.163). --Updated the firmware and customized the WN3500RP. Hope that helps!WNDR3400v2 as "Wireless Repeater (WDS)"
(for stater's my apologizes this post is quite long winded) I am having trouble setting up my Netgear n600 dual band router as a wireless repeater. Best Place to start I guess would be physical hardware, and a network layout. Hardware: ISP = COX highspeed cable; broadband 54Mbps (roughly); Modem = Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 single band 2.4Ghz/5Ghz; Router = Netgear n600 wireless dual band 2.4Ghz/5Ghz WNDR3400v2; PC(at hand) = Dell 790 Optiplex (no WiFi). Network Layout: Cable modem is in the front room (physically connected to TV PC and overhead projector via LAN cable. (to watch internet TV, I do not wish to move modem), 790 PC and N600 router is in the back room (for local gaming & internet gaming one day, again i do not wish to move). A few things that I *think* I know already, (please correct me if I am wrong) WNDR3400v2: for "Wireless Repeating Function (WDS)" both units (modem/router) must share the same; SSID, mode, channel, and security. *note if security is enabled only WEP can be used. SBG6580: for "Wireless Bridging" both units must share the same; channel, method of encryption, and encryption key. *note DHCP can only preside on the modem. 1st question, in order to enable WEP on the modem 802.11 n-mode must be disable (fact), but does that mean that I am no longer getting 5Ghz even if that's was is broadcasting? moving on. SBG6580's walk-though (this guild paraphrases this setup as a WDS config) http://broadband.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20847 SBG6580's modem config; SSID: WiFiRePete, Mode: 54g LRS (not very clear if this is the "Mode" mentioned before but Motorola's definition on this mode is quote "54g LRS inter-operates with the widest variety of 54g, 802.11g, and 802.11b clients." other options for this drop-down are 54g Auto, 54 Performance, and 802.11b ONLY) Channel: 5 Security: WEP; identicalpassphrase; Network Key# 4 Wireless 802.11 Bridging: enabled (all 3 netgear Mac Address added to list LAN, 2.4Ghz, and 5Ghz in that order) Broadcast Network: yes 802.11 Band: 2.4Ghz DHCP Server: enabled LAN IP: 192.168.1.1 (default was 192.168.0.1 but i changed it) Starting Local Address: 192.168.1.2 Reserve new IP address: (router's wifi) MAC address (this varies on what band the netgear is repeating 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, but because the Modem is broadcasting 2.4Ghz I entered the netgear's 2.4Ghz MAC Address, couldnt find anything to specify weather im supppose to put the Netgear's LAN, or Wifi MAC here, but when i scan for wireless AP's the Motorola finds WNDR3400v2 by the Wifi MAC) IP Address: 192.168.1.2 Host name: WNDR3400v2 (i assume that the Device Name listed in the Netgear config page is another term for host name? Either way this is probably over kill as after configing with no luck I set all other devices on the network to static IP's to avoid any other nodes on the network taking 192.168.1.2) DDNS serivce: Disabled whew... WNDR3400v2's router config; SSID: WiFiRePete Mode: Up to 54 Mbps (this is compatible with the Motorola's 54g LRS right?) Channel: 5 Security: WEP; identicalpassphrase; Network Key# 4 LAN Setup; Device Name: WNDR3400v2, Use Router as DHCP Server: disabled, [apply] (connection lost but after setting the 790 PC to static IP 192.168.1.30 connection was reestablished) IP Address: 192.168.1.2 [apply] (note that when i run, run > cmd > ipconfig /all, the default gateway is now 192.168.1.2 and when i enter config page for WNDR3400v2, browser reports 192.168.1.2/start.htm) Wireless Repeating; Enable wireless repeating Function 2.4Ghz b/g/n: yes/check, Wireless Repeater: enabled, Repeater IP Address: 198.162.1.1 Base Station MAC Address: *not sure which one to use here, the LAN or the WiFi* there is a separate MAC for LAN, WAN, and WiFi in the Motorola config page i went with the LAN. That's all i got, hopefully someone with more EXP can explain what I'm doing wrong, even better if they can get this repeater setup working.24KViews0likes1CommentWN3000RP dropping connection
Hi, I have just purchased the WN3000RP extender. Very easy to setup and get working, however after a period of time or overnight the connection to my router appears to have been lost. The devices (IPAD and iphone) are still connected to my _EXT network and have a full signal, however they say no internet connection when I try to open a webpage. If I restart the WN3000 extender all is good again, very frustrating. Seen this on the web a lot and so before I return this device for a different make I thought I would check out if anyone else has this issue and has managed to fix it. Many thanks in advance Julian18KViews0likes8Commentshow to reserve ip address for connected device?
My WN3500RP is extending a Netgear WNDR4300 router. The router can reserve ip addresses for connected devices. But I can't figure out how to reserve ip addresses for devices connected to the WN3500RP extender. Devices connected to the WN3500RP show up as "attached devices" in the router's configuration interface. Even after I add these devices to the list of devices under "address reservation" (in the router setup), their addresses keep changing. How can I maintain a constant ip address for a device attached to the WN3500RP? Thanks!17KViews0likes10CommentsWN3500RP No Ability to Stream Video/Audio
Hello, I have a WN3500RP set up to extend my wireless network. I am extending off of a Netgear R6300 router and am using the FastLane technology. The primary router and WN3500RP connect via 5 GHz and the extended network with the _EXT extension is a 2.4 GHz network. I can connect to the _EXT network and my bandwidth tests are fine (typically 12 to 14 Mbps). I can check email and surf the web in an acceptable way. However, I cannot stream any video or audio. If I try to use Youtube or any site that uses video, the video never plays...it just queues up as if not connected to a network or there is inadequate bandwidth. Also, my entertainment devices are able to connect to the _EXT network, but they too are unable to stream video. For example, with my AppleTV on the _EXT network I cannot even watch a movie preview. If I switch over to my primary Wifi network (that even has a low signal) I am able to stream just fine. What could cause this type of behavior? I am at a loss, and I see no settings on the WN3500RP that would indicate that it would interfere with any type of media streaming. Please help! Thank you in advance...17KViews0likes10CommentsBrand new Samsung S6 Smartphone will not communicate with WN3000RP
I have 2 other devices, a notebook and another android that communicate just fine, but my brand new S6 will not hook up to the extender. I have reset the modem, the extender, and the phone itself. I have told my phone to "forget" that particular connection and have re-set it up to no avail. When I try to connect, it says "connecting" for a minute or so then it tries again, and then finally it says "failed to obtain IP address." When I first registered my router and extender, I received an email saying customer support was available via email "unlimited and free for as long as you own your NETGEAR . Agent replied saying it was covered for 90 days and closed ticket. So I called phone support naively thinking they would be more reasonable to talk to and the agent proceeded to argue with me saying that unlimited and free really meant one year even though it didn't say that in the email from Netgear. What the heck? How can they get away with this deceptive communication. I've been trying to search for an executive's email information at Netgear HQ to complain. Does anyone know how to email a complaint through their official channels? They do a great job being elusive!15KViews0likes3Comments
