WNDR4300 Router still blocking sites removed from List
I tried to set up a parental control to block YouTube on the NETGEAR router listed above. It is running the latest version of the Firmware (V1.0.2.98 as of this message) I attempted to block YouTube by going into Advanced --> Security --> Block Sites, and adding youtube as the keyword. I get a message on two Kindles saying that access to YouTube is restricted: "Web Site Blocked by NETGEAR Firewall." However, I could still access the site on the PC (Chrome in Windows 8) I had set the time for YouTube to be blocked from 8 PM until 5 PM. The annoying part is that once I removed YouTube from the list of blocked domains (Advanced --> Security --> Block Sites --> Clear List) I am still getting the message on the Kindles saying that YouTube is blocked by the Firewall. I have cleared all of the blocks that I can see from the Router, and have rebooted the routers and the Kindles as well. Do I need to do a factory reset on the router to clear this blockage? I am trying to create a wireless bridge to connect ethernet components in one part of my home to the internet. The intenert connection comes through a cable modem connected to my wireless router WNDR4300. I want to re-purpose a WNDR3700v3 to bring the internet access to devices which do not have wireless capability (DVD Player and Roku) but have ethernet ports. I followed the instructions for each of the routers (different), but I must have missed or done something wrong, because it didn't work. Can someone help? Thanks. I've had a number of WNDR type routers (3400, 3400V4 and now 4300V2) and have worked well with my Cable modem (30M Down/5M Up). Recently I've switched to DSL and have upgrade connectivity to 50M Down/10M Up. When connected with both ISP provided Modem/router or a Smart RG 505 Modem/router I've been easily able to obtain these speeds with both WiFi and wired connections to the router. All works normally as expected. I want to use my Netgear routers as my DHCP/Gateway and have configured the modem in Bridge mode. I let the router handle the PPPoE login and things seem to work fine EXCEPT speed drops to max 27-28M Down/ 10M Up (both wired and wireless). I've been pulling my hair out over this. MTU is set correctly (checked with Ping and verified with ISP). NAT/Firewall turned off on bridge. I've even tried both modems with almost exactly the same results. Thinking it was a problem between the modem and router negotiating bridge setup I've set the modem up as the gateway and setup a DMZ host to point to the Netgear router (and my LAN behind it). Router is still DHCP server for my LAN and the router has a static "WAN" address on the same subnet as the LAN on the modem. Everything works great and I can login and verify both pieces of hardware. No double NAT issues and UPnP works fine. AGAIN the speed drops to 27-29Mbps. Too slow. I have also taken an old TPLink router and replaced my Netgear router as the Gateway/DHCP server/router and speeds are back up to 50M Down/ 10M Up in both bridge mode and as the DMZ target. So this really seems to point to the Netgear modem as the bottle neck. Any advice? I searched a bit and found a few similar posts but no resolution. Most suggestions were wrt MTU (which I've played with and verified with the other modem/router) or using it as a DMZ target which doesn't seem to increase my speed. Am I hitting the limit of the WNDR4300? It is a relatively recent router (only a couple of years old) so I expect it could handle 50Mbps?? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. I get better than 100Mbps wired directly to the router via ethernet cable. But wireless is under 20Mbps. I am direct line of site to the router, about 30 feet away. Running Win 10. No my laptop (HP Envy) is NOT able to use 5G, so does 5G really make that much of a difference? I also tried changing channels, but i didnt feel iike buying the channel analyzer app. I live in a condo with neighbors and several other wifi networks in range. Just to make sure the problem is not my heavy usage of the router I powered off all of my other devices (ipad, cell phone, music apeaker), still getting under 20Mbps. I cant upgrade the network adaptor on my laptop, so Im stuck with 2.4G. Ipad does successfully get the 5G connection, so i know the 5g works on this router, just not with my laptop. Incidentally the ipad gets 42Mbps via 5G, double what the laptop gets via 2.4G, but still less than half of what the connection is. Any ideas??Solved
WNDR 4300 loses 2.4GHz Radio daily
I purchased a 4300 router in November of 2013. Soon after purchase I had to reboot the router daily to keep the wireless working. Tech support provided a new firmware update which solved the problem. Fast forward to December 2014 and the router started dropping the 2.4GHz band radio weekly. Now I had to reboot daily or I lose those devices that lack a 5GHz radio. This is very frustrating, I can't seem to keep Netgear routers up and running. My router's current firmware is 1.0.1.60 and when I do a check for new firmware the router reports No new firmware version available. I'm at my wits end with this router which replaced a WNDR 4000 that had similar issues then died altogether in under 18 months. There has got to be a way to keep my Router up and working. Anyone possibly has any ideas on how to correct this issue? Thanks in advance. SteveSolved
WNDR4300v2 and Chromecast
Anyone else having issues with Chomecast and the v2 version of this router? All Chromecast compatible apps are missing the cast button until I reboot the Chromecast. It stays functional for about 5 minutes. It's still pingable and the Chromcast app says "ready to cast".Solved
How do I connect to my 5Ghz Network with my LAN?
So I'm going to preface this with a note that I believe I have some idea of what's going on but I could actually have no idea whats going on and make no sense. So be prepared for that. I have a WNDR4300 N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router and what I believe to be is a pretty simple problem. I have a LAN connected to the router into my computer and would like to be using the 5 Ghz network, but it has automatically set me up on the 2.4 Ghz network. I've tried every way I can think of of disconnecting and reconnecting and going on the NETGEAR Genie but nothing seems to work. This is not an issue of whether anything is supported or not, because we had an old router with the exact same dual band capability and I connected to the 5 Ghz just fine. I can also see the 5 Ghz network wirelessly on my phone, so it's obviously there. That about sums it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Solved207KViews0likes13Comments
