WNDR4300 Router still blocking sites removed from List

I tried to set up a parental control to block YouTube on the NETGEAR router listed above.  It is running the latest version of the Firmware (V1.0.2.98 as of this message)  I attempted to block YouTube by going into Advanced --> Security --> Block Sites, and adding youtube as the keyword.  I get a message on two Kindles saying that access to YouTube is restricted: "Web Site Blocked by NETGEAR Firewall."  However, I could still access the site on the PC (Chrome in Windows 8)  I had set the time for YouTube to be blocked from 8 PM until 5 PM.

The annoying part is that once I removed YouTube from the list of blocked domains (Advanced --> Security --> Block Sites --> Clear List) I am still getting the message on the Kindles saying that YouTube is blocked by the Firewall.  I have cleared all of the blocks that I can see from the Router, and have rebooted the routers and the Kindles as well.  Do I need to do a factory reset on the router to clear this blockage?  Did the time setting mess the Firewall up?

Thanks for the help!

  • Hi sambrookjm,

    1. Yes, doing a factory reset may clear the blocking of the site and all your previous configurations.

    2. If the issue (YouTube not being blocked on the PC) persists, you may look into LPC (Live Parental Controls). This link may help out.

    3. Once set up, you can login to https://netgear.opendns.com and go to Account Settings > Blacklist/Whitelist.
