PROBLEM SOLVED ! As you may have seen ive been having alot of issues with this device. The solution is DONT BUY this device if you are with COMCAST !. Here is why: 1. Slow speeds on wifi were due to an out dated firware version on the device according to NETGEAR (Tier 3 agent at the HQ in California) 2. After a FCC complaint that I filed; someone from Corp office at COMCAST called me. HE checked with his senior engineers and said that COMCAST does not have the latest firmware for the netgear device. He accepted that the firmware is completely handled (updated) by COMCAST and not NETGEAR (for the first time) 3. So basically dont use this device on COMCAST and if you want to but your own device in the future please check the compatible device which have been tested and passed with a 3 star rating at COMCAST website. link : http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net Make: Netgear Model: C3700-100NAS (Retail) Retail: Yes Device Type: Gateway DOCSIS Version: 3.0 End of Life? No Certification: certification should have 3 stars according to COMCAST for that device to have the latest firmware on it ! If you look carefully on this list Netgear device is not properly tested at COMCAST and they will not be doing anything in the near future. However Motorola / ARRIS devices are fuly supported by COMCAST (becasuse they own 10-15% of ARRIS :D ) Sadly ARRIS devices arent the best and their wifi signal strength is absurb compared to some other providers. --------- I bought a Airport express router for $85 on amazon and this has fixed all my wifi issues. (thank you Apple) Basically im using a $150 device as just a dumb modem :( Only if I knew about this corporate mumbo jumbo earlier. God Bless America !20KViews4likes6CommentsNot getting correct speed with Comcast
Hello all In November I saw that Comcast offered a higher tier internet service in my neighborhood. Speeds are advertised up to 986 Mbps. Since I signed up I’ve only seen 350-400 Mbps. I had a couple of online chats and phone calls with Comcast. I also had two techs come to the house to check the signal to the house. The second tech said that Comcast had to approve new firmware for my CM1000 modem (this was in December). He said that once Comcast approved the firmware then Netgear would push the upgrade to my modem directly. I called to try to get credit for billing since I wasn’t getting the correct speeds and I was forced to chat with Comcast tech support again. The tech sent me a link to the Nighthawk X6 router firmware page to update my CM1000 cable modem :| When I told them it was the wrong equipment they told me to contact Netgear directly to receive my firmware update. I sent this link to him. https://www.netgear.com/support/product/CM1000#download It says “Current Versions Firmware upgrades are pushed down by your ISP. For more information, please see our Knowledge Base .” He just told me to talk to Netgear :| Has anyone had any success getting advertised speeds with Comcast Gigabit Internet? Hello, i have Comcast Blast Internet 150MB. My setup is a Netgear N600 Modem/Router with wifi disabled and my Nighthawk R8000 plugged into that. My direct connect wired connection to the N600 gets 180 down, wireless on the Nighthawk is 23-25 down. I have changed channels and used multiple devices (computer, ipad, galaxy, iphone, and xbox) and get the same results. Any suggestions to get the speeds I know this router is capable of?Solved12KViews1like11CommentsNighthawk R6700v2 losing connection to CM700 Modem
Hi there, We are relatively new Comcast Xfinity custmers and decided to buy our own Modem (CM700) and Router (Nighthawk R6700v2). Every morning we find that our computers are disconnected from the internet (DNS Server error), although the Comcast Home Security system is connected through our Modem... and I can access the Internet on my phone when the computers show they are disconnected, however. Each morning, I have manually reset the modem. Today, however, I reset the router instead and the system came back up... which suggests the problem is with the router. I have been told Comcast send updates around midnight every day... and thought this might be causing the modem/routers issues... Can anyone advise on how I would investigate the issue with the router? Thanks in anticipation, AllanSolved9KViews0likes15CommentsXR500 and cm1000

I activated a new cable internet modem today and my LAN throughput, as measured via speedtest.net, dropped significantly Internet Provider: Comcast, Tier: Performance Pro Setup: Arris SB6190 -- R7500v2 -- wired PC Up until noon today, i was running an older Motorola SB6120 cable internet modem (DOCSIS 3.0 4x4 channels). I bought this right when Comcast upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 to enjoy the benefits. The 6120 is getting old and I wanted to upgrade to a newer modem and bought the Arris SB6190... trying to future-proof myself, at least for the *near* future in the DOCSIS 3.0 context. Speeds (via speedtest.net): SB6120 (4 down/4 upstream channels): --Router (via the QoS config page/speedtest.net): ~90Mbps down/~6Mbps up --PC: ~80 down/6up SB6190 (16 down/4 up-- 6190 supports 32, but only 16 bonded for my service): --Router: ~90Mbps/6Mbps --PC:~21Mbps/6Mbps Details: --R7500v2 firmware 1.0.3.4 --QoS = Off --Traffic monitoring = Off --Guest Network = Disabled --NIC on the PC is set to auto-negotiate 10/100. It's a integrated NIC on my HP PC, NVIDIA nForce 10/100 I got a case, called support, went through the following: --Changed 2.4 wireless channels to 11, then 9 (I just did what they asked... how this impacts LAN traffic, I don't know) --Changed MTU size to 1432 --Reset to factory settings None of the following resolved the issue; still only getting ~21Mbps at the PC when the Router is used. However, if I bypass the R7500, plugging the PC into the SB6190, then i'm back to ~90/6Mbps down/up speeds. I've seen other similar reports (via some internet searches) but no real solutions. Anyone resolve a similar issue? Thanks!Solved7.2KViews0likes4CommentsNighthawk R7000 + Comcast Bus SMC
Hi all, I have the simple and fairly generic Comcast business SMC cable modem. I can't get an exact model right now but it is the one that has the 4 port switch on the back. In the UI for this modem it presents a LAN address (currently set to 10.2.10.1) and a DHCP server (currently disabled). I bought the R7000 for the VPN. I'd like to connect and have access to devices on the LAN. I have static IPs. The comcast cable modem is at XXX.xxx.xxx.A, and the other one I pay for is XXX.xxx.xxx.B. The comcast SMC modem shows the .A address in the gateway setup. From the internet I can ping that IP and it returns a ping. Prior to the nighthawk I had a sonicwall tz100. In this I simply set it's WAN ip to the .B address sort of in punch through mode and connected the wan port of the sonic wall to the smc 4 port switch and it worked. The problem with the TZ100 was that it caused all kinds of issues with my company Cisco software VPN. I bought the R7000 hoping for a personal VPN solution that would not kill my company Cisco VPN needs. So I installed the nighthawk and gave it IP address 10.2.10.2 on the LAN. I tried a number of different things for the internet setup. Right now I'm using it in punch through mode as well by setting the XXX.xxx.xxx.B address in the WAN port. I point the gateway at the .A address. This sort of works. Computers connected to the nighthawk get DHCP addresses and can get out to the internet. Asking about public IP does in fact return the .B address as I expected. Here is the problem: A) The open VPN client will not connect. It just sits there waiting for host response. I've tried several different computers both Win and Mac with no luck. B) To support A even though I have remote management enabled if I from the internet attempt to connect to XXX.xxx.xxx.B:8443 it too will timeout and not connect. So I suspect something like the following: Even though the router (nighthawk) has wan set to XXX.xxx.xxx.B it really isn't present at that address. IE outgoing works, incoming does not. Somehow the SMC cable modem is like in the way. So I tried the following: SMC cable modem, enable DHCP server from 10.2.10.2 to 10.2.10.4. In nighthawk set WAN port to get address automatically. This did something strange. I want my home LAN to be on 10.2.10.xxx but the nighthawk doesn't like having the IP address of the WAN be similar it seems to the lan. It reverted my lan addresses to 192.168.1.xxx So the simple question after all that is: How should I setup the nighthawk assuming I have two static internet IPs on the SMC. One seems to be used by the SMC and the other is free. How should I setup the nighthawk to ensure it will allow VPN and remote management? Help! I use an xFinity wireless router/modem for internet, wireless and VOIP. I understand that I could use the Orbi RBK50 units as access two wireless access points for this router, but am wanting to know what the advantages and disadvantages are of this and whether I would possibly be better off disabling the xFinity wifi and just going with the 2 Orbi's. I realize that going the access point route would potentially give me more coverage (3 wireless signal senders instead of 2) but wonder if I would be losing out on some functions or features by doing this. Thanks in advance.Problem using Orbi (RBK50) with Xfinity (Comcast) modem/router
Orbi was working fine with my comcast/xfinity service until this weekend. (Comcast modem/router was in bridge mode per instructions.) This weekend my internet service started acting up intermittently and yesterday it wasn't working at all. Tried power recycle several times, confirmed Xfinity modem was in bridge mode, had comcast cust service send modem reset, all to no avail. The Orbi was connecting to satellite and creating local network, but the web control panel (orbilogin.com) said no internet connection. Tried the troubleshooting through the web control panel but never succeeded. Spent over an hour working the issue with Comcast customer service and nothing was working - finally had them reset the cable modem/router to normal mode (not bridge mode) and gave up on the Orbi (powered them down). (In normal mode, the internet service is working and the WiFi coverage works in my house, but it is back to the pre-Orbi coverage and speed, so not as good.) Can anybody help??? Does this sound like a hardware problem with the Orbi? Other ideas/troubleshooting? I've exhausted my ideas as well as anything Comcast could do to help...Connection issues EX6200 Wireless Extender connecting to Comcast Cable modem/router
I've got a brand new EX6200 I'm setting up for a customer to provide connectivitiy to their guesthouse. Their main home is about 50 yards from the antenna at the guest house. The EX6200 has one of the antenna ports plugged into an outside directional high gain antenna. I've got a very good signal, green indicator on the 2.4GHz network and good coverage to the guesthouse with a green device indicator. The Comcast modem does not have 5GHz so no connection on that circuit externally. With this setup my Dell laptop has no problems connecting and decent Internet speeds as tested by speedtest.net, 19Mb's down and 12Mb's up. I can't get anything else to connect to the Internet on this network though. I tried two iPhones, and iPhone 4 and an iPhone 6, and two other laptops. One a Dell and one an HP. They all connect to the EX6200 just fine and show they are connected, but no Internet traffic flows. No web pages will load. I've been pulling my hair out trying to determine the issue. I did notice that the Comcast modem is using IPv6 as well as IPv4. My laptop connection shows both IPv4 and IPv6 IP addresses when connected. You can't tell on the iPhones if there is an IPv6 address or not, and the older Dell laptop shows the IPv4 address but nothing on the IPv6. My laptop and the older Dell are both running Windows 7. The HP laptop is running Windows 10. I brought the EX6200 into my office and hooked it up to a WatchGuard XTM-25w. I enabled IPv6 on the WatchGuard to see if I could duplicate the problem. Both my laptop and my iPhone 6 are connecting to the Internet fine with this setup. Has anyone else seen this behavior or have any ideas? FYI, I tried an amped Wireless extender on this first and with a 79% signal to the Comcast modem/router the amped unit would drop connection every couple of minutes, but it did allow me to connect with the same devices that are connectiong to the EX6200, the connection just wasn't stable. I would test the signal level over and over and it varied between 77% and 79%, never lower. I saw from reviews that many others had the same dropping connectivity issues with the amped unit so I figured they were not worth another try.5.5KViews0likes5Comments
