disconnects
2 TopicsPowerline AV500 - disconnecting and no improvement in extension
Background I live in Italy with poor Internet speed (1.5-4 Mbps). I have Vodafone ADSL/router. I installed Netgear to improve wifi reception upstairs. Downstairs I have an ethernet conmnected desktop PC. Also a couple of ipads, scanner/printer, laptop, radio that occasionally use wifi. I installed Netgear and (I think) cloned the Vodafone network so I can now see two networks. Problems. 1. I often get messages on route saying Ethernet device was disconnected. Then about 20 seconds later I get a message saying new device found and connected. I don't need to do anything. 2. On Netgear Genie panel (wifi connection), it says cannot scan wifi networks - make sure wift adapter enabled. I do not understand this as wifi does work, just not very well. 3. I have a wifi radio on the network that frequently disconnects - although ipads (for radio reception) never do. This may or may not be connected to Netgear installation. 4. The cloned netork for upstairs rarely works for long. This is a major problem as we stream UK TV programs via laptop and HDMI cable. It's possible that because of the low Internet speed, I can never improve the situation so I am considering removing Netgear completely. All thoughts welcome. Maybe once a week I lose my internet connection. After a few minutes the connection will come back. I live in a normal sized detached house. The problem used to be even worse where it would disconnect at least once per day. When that happened I had a double wall socket with the Nano plugged into 1 socket and a surge protector plugged into the other. I thought as long as you don't plug the Nano into a surge protector and instead plug it directly into the wall socket then you would be fine. Obviously not. So I now have the Nano in 1 socket and nothing in the other socket and it now only disconnects once per week but I'd like to prevent it disconnecting at all! I've tried homeplugs by other brands and have had the same problem although Netgear seems to be the most reliable with less disconnects. Years ago I had the original 1.0 homeplug technology 10 Mbps homeplugs and I NEVER had this disconnecting problem!4.3KViews0likes3Comments
