3 TopicsMoving CPU fan connector to IO card from Mobo
I am working on my Biz Pro system that died after a couple quick reboots following a power outage that lasted longer than the UPS did. When researching the issue, I found this article: https://kb.netgear.com/12240/Service-Action-for-x86-ReadyNAS-Pro-CPU-fan-speed-control# It mentions some systems were wired wrong, i.e. the CPU fan connects to a 4-pin connector on the MOBO, and instead, should be wired to the IO card to get fan control based on CPU temp vs. running at full speed. The article doesn't explain how to connect a 4-pin connector with 4 wires in it to a 3-pin connector, i.e. one of the four fan wires wouldn't be connected. Surprised that detail was ommitted from the article. I am guessing only 3 are needed, ground, power, and a third one for the speed setting. The system fan mounted on the back has 3 wires, red, yellow, black. Presumably the red is hot, black is ground, and the yellow for fan speed. The CPU fan wiring is blue, green, yellow, black. If I don't get this figured out, I will plug the connector back where it was and pretend I didn't see the article :) ThanksFan Failure on ReadyNas Ultra6
Hello, I have 2 Netgear ReadyNAS storage units today I recieved an email telling me that the Fan2 in the device is failing with low RPM I called the store I purchase this device and they told me because it's 6 years old I cannot get a replacement fan through them. So I though I would see what can be done to correct this issue. I am hoping I can get a fan so I don't need to purchase another device as it's still working just one of the fans have failed. Any suggestions appreciated.Fan 1 reported failed on NV+. Do I need a PWM 4-pin replacement fan?
Hello, I have an NV+ (older one - I believe it uses a Sparc). I'm getting notificatinons that Fan 1 has failed. It doesn't look like it has failed - as it is still spinning, but it does show 0 rpm on the dashboard. So perhaps the sensor is gone. When I recalibrate, it comes back momentarily - but then goes back to zero. So my question - do I need a 3 or 4 pin (PWN) fan to replace this with? I believe it is a 92mm fan and i've seen the Noctua NF-B9 is a popular choice, but it comes in a standard model and a PWM model. Seeing as how the NV+ can slow down the fan speed depending on need, does it need a 4-pin PWM fan? Thanks in advance.
