fan

Hi everyone. Just wanted to share a little fun setup I made out of boredom. I found a spare slide switch and a 5V fan in my electronics box and also a 2 AA batteries socket connected in serial. I soldered it together and insulated the wires in a coating and stuck it beneath an opening in the lid and positioned the small fan inside the square, where the Li-Ion battery was supposed to sit before I detached it. It now runs on 3 volts providing a refreshing stream of air to aid the logic board in receiving its heavy loads from the telecommunications network. :) You could actually make it spin faster by using three or maybe four AA batteries without burning out the circuitry (I have tested it with as high a 12V battery, and it did tolerate that for several minutes). You could even get a 9V battery and a just slightly larger fan, or you could perhaps use a tiny lithium polymer battery and make a compact solution completely inside the device itself by using up the dimensions from the hollow battery compartment! I have noticed that the modem gets really hot when you pull torrents down for hours and some report that the DC current will decrease in case of overheating and start to drain the internal battery down to zero, while others report that using a fast charger (2.4A and up) without internal battery will less likely make their modem reboot, so for those people, this could be an adequate option to avoid removing or poking holes in the cover lid and mounting a regular sized cooling fan.Moving CPU fan connector to IO card from Mobo
I am working on my Biz Pro system that died after a couple quick reboots following a power outage that lasted longer than the UPS did. When researching the issue, I found this article: https://kb.netgear.com/12240/Service-Action-for-x86-ReadyNAS-Pro-CPU-fan-speed-control# It mentions some systems were wired wrong, i.e. the CPU fan connects to a 4-pin connector on the MOBO, and instead, should be wired to the IO card to get fan control based on CPU temp vs. running at full speed. The article doesn't explain how to connect a 4-pin connector with 4 wires in it to a 3-pin connector, i.e. one of the four fan wires wouldn't be connected. Surprised that detail was ommitted from the article. I am guessing only 3 are needed, ground, power, and a third one for the speed setting. The system fan mounted on the back has 3 wires, red, yellow, black. Presumably the red is hot, black is ground, and the yellow for fan speed. The CPU fan wiring is blue, green, yellow, black. If I don't get this figured out, I will plug the connector back where it was and pretend I didn't see the article :) ThanksFan in fullspeed ( readyNAS 102)
Situation: - ReadyNAS RN102 F.W. : 6.8.0 - RAIDar: 6.3.0 Problem: The fan in my Nas is continious in full speed, While the dashboard says it's not working. The temperature of the HDD's is 32 degrees celcius, the processor 42 degrees. Looking for a solution............:-(2.6KViews0likes4CommentsReadyNas Pro 6 - upgraded fans sound like jet engine

Hi, I have this NAS RND-2D since some time ago and now suddenly only work the fan when I turn it on. None of the leds or network are working, only works the fan at full speed. As soon as I connect the power cable, the fan run at full speed until I unplug it off again, doesn't happen anything else, Even after 10-15 no LEd lights up. I have tried others HDD, pressing all the buttons and reset, but I continue without any difference. I will really appreciate any help to fix it or know if my ReadyNas has died... Have never seen the R9000 fan(s?) cut on. But then, I've been monitoring the temperature on & off by hand, and it's never been particularly warm, so the fan wouldn't need to be on. Anyway I can know for sure if the fan works? Are there internal diagnostics for fan operation? HEllo One more new bug after I upgrade to 6.6.1 on the RN314 of one of my customers, performances page shows 2 fans now and the second one report 0rpm, so readynas sent alerts all day long.! Very annoying. I'm pretty sure there is only one fan within a RN314, am I wrong ? Temperatures are OK and fan1 speed report normally, how can I disable this fantom fan ?3.6KViews0likes3CommentsFan Failure on ReadyNas Ultra6
Hello, I have 2 Netgear ReadyNAS storage units today I recieved an email telling me that the Fan2 in the device is failing with low RPM I called the store I purchase this device and they told me because it's 6 years old I cannot get a replacement fan through them. So I though I would see what can be done to correct this issue. I am hoping I can get a fan so I don't need to purchase another device as it's still working just one of the fans have failed. Any suggestions appreciated.Fan 1 reported failed on NV+. Do I need a PWM 4-pin replacement fan?
Hello, I have an NV+ (older one - I believe it uses a Sparc). I'm getting notificatinons that Fan 1 has failed. It doesn't look like it has failed - as it is still spinning, but it does show 0 rpm on the dashboard. So perhaps the sensor is gone. When I recalibrate, it comes back momentarily - but then goes back to zero. So my question - do I need a 3 or 4 pin (PWN) fan to replace this with? I believe it is a 92mm fan and i've seen the Noctua NF-B9 is a popular choice, but it comes in a standard model and a PWM model. Seeing as how the NV+ can slow down the fan speed depending on need, does it need a 4-pin PWM fan? Thanks in advance.
