9 TopicsClient Isolated Between Router and Satellites
Hello. Can someone help me figure out what setting i need to change so that clients can communicate between orbi devices (satellite to satellite, satellite to router, and router to satellite)? I have two kids that play minecraft, and forwhatever reason, I cannot get them to join if ipads are on different orbi devices. I am on firmware 2.1.4.10. I have also had issues getting two Xbox Ones to see each other. One is wired to the router and one is wired to the satellite. Will installing too many satellites do more harm than good? More coverage than necessary overkill.
So I just moved into a new 2-story house that's 2600 square feet. Typical suburban home. Ideally, I should get a one router/one satellite system like the RBK40, RBK22, or even the RBK50. However, I'm looking at larger systems for sale like the RBK53 which is one router/two satellites and even the RBK44 which is one router/three satellites. And these are rated to cover 7,500 to 8,000 square feet respectively. My question is will installing a system that's rated to cover more area and installing that into a smaller home do more harm than good? Will installing too many satellites when you don't need them give you better coverage or is it counterproductive?RBR40 Router dropping Arris TM822A, I think
I bought an Orbi RBK33 system with RBR40 router last November. Intially, everything was fine, but somewhere along the way it appears the router decides to drop it's connection to the modem (perhaps starting in December). At least, I think this is the problem. I see my WiFi router isn't listed as an available network from all the devices I use (phones, tablets, computer, roku). Sometimes, while monitoring the WiFi, I see our it disappear, come back and disappear again from my devices when having trouble. Most often, I have to cycle power to the router to get it to come back up. It might stay up minutes, hours or a week. It seems like when there is a rough period, it stays up closer to minutes than hours. FWIW I do have a technical background but my knowledge in this area is poor. I logged into my router and there are no new firmware updates to install for the router or sattelites. Perhaps there are other router settings to attend to? I am at a loss. I don't mind throwing money at this problem to replace either the router or modem, but I really would like some idea of which is the culprit before I take a guess. This is the system I purchased: NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home Mesh WiFi System with Tri-band – Eliminate WiFi dead zones, Simple plug-in setup, Single network name, Works with Amazon Alexa, Up to 5,000 sqft, AC2200 (Set of 3)Suggestions... Need to update my system?? R7000 & EX6200 to an RBK50???
Good day, I currently have a R7000 in my basement as my main router and an EX6200 as an extender on the main floor. I get pretty good coverage however the EX6200 seems to be failing a little more and think it may be time to replace either it or my whole system. Been looking at the OrbiRBK50 mesh system however keep on reading about how mesh systems operate and not sure if this may be in my best interest. I currently have my pool control system (aquaconnect) and phillips hue lights connected to my extender via eithernet cables. Now with the mesh system would I have to worry about the lights and pool system constantly jumping between the 2.5ghz and 5ghz bands (constantly disconnecting and re-connecting) or is there a way to lock those two particular items into a certian band so it doesn't connect/re-connect all the time???? Thoughts comments??? Please and thanksRBR50 synched with Satellite but cannot find
Firmware 2.1.4.10 Even though the Satellite lights is blue indicating 'synch' my router cannot find the satellite. On the mobile app it acknowledges the router but cannot find the satellite. I have done a cold reboot; power cycle down; etc.. no luck..i have 'synched' a couple fo times and each time i get a solid blue light. But when i try to add satellite on the application it cannot find. anyone have any thoughts how to resolve? thanksRB50 - Random Device Dropouts
I have had an Orbi (RBR50 + Satellite) for almost 12 months. We live in a 4 bedroom townhouse (multi storey, not a lot of square metres). The coverage has always been reliable and fantastic throughout the house. No issues, no internet dropouts, no device dropouts. Last week we started to randomly have issues. I have quite a number of wireless devices such as laptops, phones, ipads, wireless lights (Lifx) and Logitech POP bridge/buttons + the usual TVs, soundbar etc; about 20 or so devices. I havent added anything new or made any changes but we periodically have devices dropout and reconnect after a random period of time. Sometimes 30 or so seconds, sometimes longer. There doesnt seem to be a pattern with the devices. Tonight the Logitech POP bridge has dropped out a few times which has been frustrating and I've also had various Lifx lights go (not always the same ones). I'm on Version V2.1.4.10 of the firmware. I've recently power cycled all the devices which hasn't made a difference but I've stopped short of a reset. Router hardware version: RBR50 Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 It is becoming routine for the updates Netgear releases to break the reliability of my Orbi network. When my network is working as I want it to I don't want your updates. Instead, though, I get updates whether I want them or not and am treated to random dropping of my connection to where I have to reboot the router to re-enable my internet connection. It can work great for months then you decide to send one of your piece of garbage updates, that I don't want, and boom - there goes reliability. I live with and care for my Father who is somewhat disabled and can not get to the part of the house where the router is located (out of necessity). I am sometimes out of town for work. He depends on our internet connection for various things including the TV. If I'm out of town and the router decides to take a dump, as it has been doing frequently lately, he's screwed. If I had been able to stick with the stable performance of the last firmware revision this wouldn't happen. I've been using the Orbi system since the late part of last year. This is the second firmware revision that has caused these problems. Do you even test your firmware updates or just send them out willy nilly? Based on what I'm seeing it's the latter. So for the love of all things good, add a switch somewhere so we can stop getting your crappy updates that break my network. I don't need 'em and I don't want 'em!Make Beta Firmware More Widely Available
As many of us know, there are tons of problems with the Orbi firmware and it seems they do not test it enough. I've seen several requests for beta firmware and from what I can tell, it's only offered to a very small select few, and only when Netgear wants it to go to that person, and not when some request it anyway. I sent a private message to a moderator/Netgear employee on here asking how I could get access to the beta firmware, and offered to help test and give feedback, and my message was completely ignored. Given all the problems that exist with the firmware and what appears to be a lack of testing and QA, why wouldn't they offer it to more people and get more feedback? Instead, they force update everyone, and then wait for complaints on failed networks and then take a long time to release updates and fixes. This is a broken process and needs improvement. Thoughts?
