4 TopicsUsing Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!VLAN Tagging for Guest Network
I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past on this forum, but all of them appear to be kinda old, and before you could uncheck the "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP mode. Now it looks like you can uncheck that in the version of firmware that I have (1.11.0.20). I have my own router/DHCP/firewall/gateway that I want to keep using, so I have put my Orbi network into AP only mode. However, I would still like to have a guest network that I'm able to separate at my router. I would like to do this via VLAN tagging. So my questions are: Is this something that Orbi is capable of now? If not, is this something that will be available in the future? And if so, is there a way to be notified when it is available? What actually happens when you uncheck "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP only mode? Does the Orbi just start NAT'ing and serving it's own DHCP at that point? Lastly, assuming that it's not already a thing, I would like to chime in with others here and say that I would REALLY like to see VLAN tagging as an option in the advanced interface.Orbi AC3000 - Amazon Dash Wand does not see 2.4Ghz network
I have an Orbi AC3000 on FW1.12.0.18. Everything appears stable, with one small issue. Today we purchased an Amazon Dash Wand. This is a small mic device that functions with Amazon Alexa. The wand operates only on a 2.4 Ghz frequency. The wand is not seeing the Orbi SSID? I can’t confirm if this is due to a single SSID for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz network. The Wand App never gets to the network authentication screen with Network Name and Password. Is there a method to confirm the problem and correct the issue?SolvedCan't connect some devices to wi-fi network after installing Orbi router and two satellites.
I recently installed 3-pack Orbi router and two satelites and the setup was a breeze. Unfortunately, half of my devices refuse to connect. Two of three of our household's MacBook Pros refuse to connect to the network. Occassionally, after renewing the DHCP lease, or restarting the Cable modem, these MacBooks will connect to the wifi network, however, there is then no access to internet. For all other devices (cameras, mobile devices, etc) the connection is easy and always works - even when the above devices are failing. I have tried restarting everything and repower them on in (slow) sequence. No avail. Any ideas? If I can't solve this, I am gonna take these back and return to the extenders I was using.
