31 TopicsNew RN316 - Network Access is SLOW
Hi! I've been doing a lot of reading on the community forums about slow network performance when accessing shares via Windows Explorer and I'm experiencing the same thing. I've checked most of the solutions I found on the forums, and nothing has helped, but I thought I would throw my question out there to see if you have a solution before I call support for further assistance. Here are the details of my network setup and additional information needed to help diagnose my issue: NAS: RN316 Diskless - Firmware Version 6.9.2 - One 4 TB WD Red drive / Four 2 TB WD Black drives (they were moved over from a WD4000X that had NICs die) - 5.69 TB free of 7.26 TB total - X-RAID running on RAID 5 - Bond between both en0 & en1 enabled with Active Backup enabled - Anti-Virus is disabled, File Search is disabled, SMB only protocol on all folders, DLNA also on respective media folders - Permissions wide open, everyone has access to Network Access, File Access is set Owner and Group to admin - ReadyCloud access turned on - Plex Server running. Main Issue: Accessing and opening network documents such as Word, PDF, etc take anywhere from 15 - 30 seconds before they open. Saving Word documents makes the documents appear to lock up and go to "not responding", then they come back after the 15 - 30 seconds. File transfer speeds are decent, running on average at 10 Mbps both ways. My old Windows Storage Server WD4000X NAS never had this issue, only since I installed this new NAS on the network have I had this issue Main Wireless Router: Netgear R7000 Secondary Router: Netgear R6300v2 - Being used only to create physical NIC ports, not used as a wireless network extender PC's: All Windows 10, either Pro or Home edition - All Windows Updates installed - All using Wireless AC protocol with good signal Here are the things that I've tried to fix the issue: 1. Enable/Disable Bond between en0 & en1, tried several protocols, no difference 2. Permissions - Network Access is open to everyone, File Access set to guest/guest, changed to admin/admin, no difference 3. Plex Server - Enabled/Disabled, no change 4. Verified SnapShot management set to Smart 5. No backups running 6. Logged out of ReadyCloud app on desktop So, anything I'm missing, or do I need to call support at this point? Your help and time reviewing my issue are appreciated. I look forward to seeing what your suggestions are. Thank you!Guest network password--nothing works
Hi Netgear! I'm trying to enable my guest network. Nothing I enter into the password field is accepted as a password and I get the message telling me about the "8 to 63 ASCII or 64 hex digits." The latter I assume is WRONG, as it is asking for 64-bit number _represented_ in base 16 (which makes it 64 bits / 4 bits-per-hex digit = 16 hex digits). Aaaaaaanyway, so, nothing I enter is accepted: "a" -- No. "a123b123" -- No. "t1234567" -- No. "Test1234" -- No, and I've attached a picture of this. 64-bit number in base 16 --No. So, my question is, what is one supposed to put in the field for a guest network password? See the attached picture--I get this "error message" for any string I put into the password field. I am using an R7000 Router with an E8000 Mesh plus two additional E7000 Extenders. Using latest firmware on all devices. a) The R7000 list of DCHP clients is missing several devices. Refereshing keeps updating but not consistant each time. Editting device types and names on R7000 gets ignored by R7000 in the attached device list. b) With "One-SSID on" on the E8000,the E7000s ignore the E8000 and try to go back to the R7000 (weaker signal). Switching off one-SSID and configuring the E8000 to a different SSID appears to get better results with the two E7000s when i point them to the E8000 SSID. c) The admin ports on the E8000 and 2 x E7000 devices keep being unavailable (net timeout). Also lost in DCHP list of R7000. 1. Am I asking too much of the R7000? 2. Why does R7000 not maintain a true list of DHCP devices. There are 30-60 devices at anytime on my net. 3. Putting two E7000's off the E8000 should work right? Thanks Nev1.5KViews0likes5CommentsUsing Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!PLEASE HELP Mapping error the network name is no longer available ReadyNas 2100
Please help me determine what could cause a mapping issue I am seeing with my readynas 2100. Info: I have an active directory system I am putting the Readynas on for a data backup to a recorder. This system is a communicaiton system for a county I am working. The system is an active directory GPO based system. I have join the Readynas 2100 to the domain and synced it with my NTP. All is good there. The NAS has even pulled all the accounts from AD as you would expect. I then created a fileshare on this NAS. I can access the file share via I.E. (Internet Explorer.) I plan to use the file share I created as a location for backup of one of the machines on the domain. I have tried to map the network drive from a machine on the domain and encounter an error stating that this network drive name is no longer available. I cannot get past this point on any of the machines on the domain. Strange enough if I remote into the system with my personaly machine I can map the drive with no issue on my local PC. What would cause the Machines on the domain to not be allowed or get the name no longer exsist error when trying to map the fileshare? I have tried it on many different windows platforms on the domain with no luck. I have also disable microsoft client signed messages, local security policy via AD gpo and this didnt help. I cannot for the life of me find anything that could help. I cant use netgear support as the contract has been long expired. Netgear refuses to assist any furthure without buying a support contract. This isnt my equipment or my companys equipment. So the county would have to foot the bill and I would like to explorer the knowledge base on the community as was recomended to me.561Views0likes1CommentVLAN Tagging for Guest Network
I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past on this forum, but all of them appear to be kinda old, and before you could uncheck the "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP mode. Now it looks like you can uncheck that in the version of firmware that I have (1.11.0.20). I have my own router/DHCP/firewall/gateway that I want to keep using, so I have put my Orbi network into AP only mode. However, I would still like to have a guest network that I'm able to separate at my router. I would like to do this via VLAN tagging. So my questions are: Is this something that Orbi is capable of now? If not, is this something that will be available in the future? And if so, is there a way to be notified when it is available? What actually happens when you uncheck "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP only mode? Does the Orbi just start NAT'ing and serving it's own DHCP at that point? Lastly, assuming that it's not already a thing, I would like to chime in with others here and say that I would REALLY like to see VLAN tagging as an option in the advanced interface.LACP no longer working on RN516 running 6.7.5
LACP bonding no longer seems to work with my RN516 on 6.7.5, the switch shows only one interface up, as if the teaming is Active Backup, not LACP. The MTU keeps resetting to 1500 from 9000, as if that is the only thing it can get to work and all the uplink gear supports jumbo frame so that shouldn't be an issue. Have tried dissolving the bond, resetting all the MTUs and re-bonding, but it still doesn't work. Works just fine on my RN626X, so possibly a model specific issue. Hash setting is L2 on both models, switch is a XS728T on firmware 6.5.1.30. Advice?6.9KViews0likes26CommentsIssues with IP cameras and Ranger Extender
I have been going back and forth with my IP camera manufacturer regarding signal problems, off line issues etc. For the point of clarification, my network name is Daniel, and the Extender is Daniel_EXT The latest recommendation from their support people is this: The issue may be with your WiFi extender. When you use a WiFi extender to improve signal strength for your cameras, please make sure it has the same exact name as the original router network. This way, the camera will choose to connect to the strongest network of the same name. Otherwise, the camera will get confused and connect to the original network that has the weaker signal strength. I can see from your dashboard that your extender’s SSID is “Daniel_EXT”. I suggest you change the extender’s SSID to match your main network’s SSID. This can be done through your router settings. My question is, does this make sense? Can you even name the Exteder the same as the main network?N450 CG3000Dv2 How do I enable 5GHz? Photo included
I have searched 5GHz topic but this tech newbie can't find the answer to this: how do I enable 5GHz? Genie shows 2.4 but that's it. Picture shows results of trying to find 5GHz. I would greatly appreciate any help. Talk to me like I'm 10 y.o. THANK YOU!4.8KViews0likes1CommentNetwork configuration and Computer name change
Hi guys! I'm brand new to this forum and was directed here by customer support. I was helped two weeks back to get my NAS back online but when I have tried to log in since it just says it's offline (attached is a screenshot of the message). I have recently changed the computers name and can't help but think that may have thrown off the configuration but the technical wizardry the customer support provided was amazing to re-configure everything - but there's no way I couldn't follow what he was doing or understand it. Could anybody lend me a helping hand to try and do this myself? TomSolved5.5KViews0likes10Comments
