14 TopicsGuest network password--nothing works
Hi Netgear! I'm trying to enable my guest network. Nothing I enter into the password field is accepted as a password and I get the message telling me about the "8 to 63 ASCII or 64 hex digits." The latter I assume is WRONG, as it is asking for 64-bit number _represented_ in base 16 (which makes it 64 bits / 4 bits-per-hex digit = 16 hex digits). Aaaaaaanyway, so, nothing I enter is accepted: "a" -- No. "a123b123" -- No. "t1234567" -- No. "Test1234" -- No, and I've attached a picture of this. 64-bit number in base 16 --No. So, my question is, what is one supposed to put in the field for a guest network password? See the attached picture--I get this "error message" for any string I put into the password field. I am using an R7000 Router with an E8000 Mesh plus two additional E7000 Extenders. Using latest firmware on all devices. a) The R7000 list of DCHP clients is missing several devices. Refereshing keeps updating but not consistant each time. Editting device types and names on R7000 gets ignored by R7000 in the attached device list. b) With "One-SSID on" on the E8000,the E7000s ignore the E8000 and try to go back to the R7000 (weaker signal). Switching off one-SSID and configuring the E8000 to a different SSID appears to get better results with the two E7000s when i point them to the E8000 SSID. c) The admin ports on the E8000 and 2 x E7000 devices keep being unavailable (net timeout). Also lost in DCHP list of R7000. 1. Am I asking too much of the R7000? 2. Why does R7000 not maintain a true list of DHCP devices. There are 30-60 devices at anytime on my net. 3. Putting two E7000's off the E8000 should work right? Thanks Nev1.5KViews0likes5CommentsUsing Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!VLAN Tagging for Guest Network
I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past on this forum, but all of them appear to be kinda old, and before you could uncheck the "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP mode. Now it looks like you can uncheck that in the version of firmware that I have (1.11.0.20). I have my own router/DHCP/firewall/gateway that I want to keep using, so I have put my Orbi network into AP only mode. However, I would still like to have a guest network that I'm able to separate at my router. I would like to do this via VLAN tagging. So my questions are: Is this something that Orbi is capable of now? If not, is this something that will be available in the future? And if so, is there a way to be notified when it is available? What actually happens when you uncheck "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP only mode? Does the Orbi just start NAT'ing and serving it's own DHCP at that point? Lastly, assuming that it's not already a thing, I would like to chime in with others here and say that I would REALLY like to see VLAN tagging as an option in the advanced interface.Issues with IP cameras and Ranger Extender
I have been going back and forth with my IP camera manufacturer regarding signal problems, off line issues etc. For the point of clarification, my network name is Daniel, and the Extender is Daniel_EXT The latest recommendation from their support people is this: The issue may be with your WiFi extender. When you use a WiFi extender to improve signal strength for your cameras, please make sure it has the same exact name as the original router network. This way, the camera will choose to connect to the strongest network of the same name. Otherwise, the camera will get confused and connect to the original network that has the weaker signal strength. I can see from your dashboard that your extender’s SSID is “Daniel_EXT”. I suggest you change the extender’s SSID to match your main network’s SSID. This can be done through your router settings. My question is, does this make sense? Can you even name the Exteder the same as the main network?N450 CG3000Dv2 How do I enable 5GHz? Photo included
I have searched 5GHz topic but this tech newbie can't find the answer to this: how do I enable 5GHz? Genie shows 2.4 but that's it. Picture shows results of trying to find 5GHz. I would greatly appreciate any help. Talk to me like I'm 10 y.o. THANK YOU!4.8KViews0likes1CommentOrbi AC3000 - Amazon Dash Wand does not see 2.4Ghz network
I have an Orbi AC3000 on FW1.12.0.18. Everything appears stable, with one small issue. Today we purchased an Amazon Dash Wand. This is a small mic device that functions with Amazon Alexa. The wand operates only on a 2.4 Ghz frequency. The wand is not seeing the Orbi SSID? I can’t confirm if this is due to a single SSID for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz network. The Wand App never gets to the network authentication screen with Network Name and Password. Is there a method to confirm the problem and correct the issue?SolvedCan't connect some devices to wi-fi network after installing Orbi router and two satellites.
I recently installed 3-pack Orbi router and two satelites and the setup was a breeze. Unfortunately, half of my devices refuse to connect. Two of three of our household's MacBook Pros refuse to connect to the network. Occassionally, after renewing the DHCP lease, or restarting the Cable modem, these MacBooks will connect to the wifi network, however, there is then no access to internet. For all other devices (cameras, mobile devices, etc) the connection is easy and always works - even when the above devices are failing. I have tried restarting everything and repower them on in (slow) sequence. No avail. Any ideas? If I can't solve this, I am gonna take these back and return to the extenders I was using.Wifi extension to metal building
I have a WGR614G54 router. What's best way to get wifi inside building? It's around 50 ft from house, and I get wifi just outside the building. Electric panel in building is powered from a branch circuit in house main electric panel. So if it helps, they're on the same electric circuit.3.9KViews0likes2CommentsCan't set the 5MHz network
