32 TopicsAdd ability to change the VPN Client Device Local IP Address
Currently on RBR850 and RBRE960 routers there is no way to change VPN address, when VPN feature enabled. The router always has VPN subnet 192.168.254.0 and IP VPN IP 192.168.254.2 The problem is that when we have more than on ORBI system - we could not connect at the same time to both due to IP conflict. Previously on Orbi PRO - we had an option to somehow control VPN IP subnet - it is follow LAN subnet +1, So if we have two ORBI with different LAN addresses - they also will have different VPN addresses. It should be not a big problem to add such behavior instead of hardcoded 192.168.254.0 Thank you.565Views4likes3CommentsSecurity concern - No VPN authentication for incoming sessions
Hello Netgear Development Team, I procured the Netgear Orbi 763s to have an excellent wireless backbone and to access my home LAN resources outside my home ( e.g from the office, at friends'/relatives' places, or any remote location). With the Orbi 763s firmware version V6.3.6.2_1.2.66, I just have to copy the configuration file to the OpenVPN folder to be able to connect to my home resource from anywhere around the world. The problem with this setup is that there is a lack of control: 1) Firstly, if my OpenVPN configuration file gets leaked, somebody will be able to access my home resource with just the OpenVPN configuration file and I won't even know until my systems are compromised or data are stolen. 2) If my phone or laptop gets stolen, there is no way I can prevent the thief to access my home resource if he/she manages to break through the phone/laptop. 3) When I share the VPN access with my family members, I want to be able to identify who has connected to the home resource at a given time. With the current method, I have no way to have this information. 4) In addition, I want to add multi-factor authentication, like email /sms code to log in to OpenVPN. #rbk763424Views1like2CommentsImplement OpenVPN client for Orbi
Please implement the OpenVPN client in Orbi. I would like to use a VPN connection without having to configure a VPN client on every device. There are multiple devices that benefit from a VPN but do not have VPN capabilities themselves, such as game consoles (Xbox, Playstation) and smart tvs (e.g. Roku, LG webOS). The OpenVPN client feature has been added to XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming Router and for PureVPN on Nighthawk X4S in R7800 Firmware Version 1.0.2.46. OpenVPN client support would be preferable, as I use a VPN that is not PureVPN. Please add the OpenVPN client support to Orbi too.48KViews119likes73CommentsAbility to import VPN Provider Profiles (ie ExpressVPN, Nord VPN, etc)
It would be nice if Netgear actually had an option to use the roters as a VPN client like ASUS allows, with the ability to import profiles from VPN providers like ExpressVPN, Nord VPN and others. Also the ability to bypass VPN for certain devices would also be nice. ASUS routers with similar CPUs & WiFi chipsets offer this on their routers which are also priced lower. If you are going to charge premium prices over your competitors features like this shoud be there.5.6KViews57likes7CommentsSupport for Linux clients and OPENVPN on R7000 or any other Netgear router
Althought the R7000 router has support for MAC and Windows clients when using the Netgear R7000 OPENVPN built-in server, it does not support Linux as a client. See the following link: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-VPN-Service-TAP-or-TUN/m-p/1002408#M20691 Currently I am running the latest "supported" firmware version: V1.0.4.30_1.1.67 as of Nov 10 2015 There is a great number of Linux users and not being able to take advantage of the OPENVPN server in the Router seems to be a big limitation/oversight. I personally purchased this router because of the fat that it had a built in OENVPN server, so that I could connect my Android and Linux devices to my network. As I discovered after purchasing the router neither of these platforms are supported. It seems that IOS and Android support is coming, but no plans to implement Linux. It may be possible to manually configure a Linux client if Netgear would publish how OPENVPN is implemented. I understand that this would not be "supported" by Netgear, but for those of us who have some technical skill we could possibly implement it and make it work for our needs. Providing information such as and not limited to the following would be very useful since OPENVPN is open source software: Tunnel Device (TUN/TAP) Protocol UDP/TCP) Port number (1194 -> official port, or another port defined by Netgear) Encryption cipher (None, blowfish, AES-512/256/192/128 CBC, etc....) Hash algorithm (SHA1/256/512,MD4/5,none, etc....) TLS Cipher (none, AES-128/256 SHA, etc...) LZO Compression (Adaptive, yes/No, none) Authority/ Password usage TLS Auth Key usage ? PKCS12 Key usage? Static Key usage? ns-cert-type server ? Is access limited to the local network, to access the internet only, or to both local and internet? etc..... This post is essentially to ask for Netgear to provide the following: Implement a Linux client file and instructions on how to implement it for the various distributions of Linux. Provide comprehensive documentation on how OPENVPN is implemented in the R7000 router or any other router that has an OPENVPN server built-in.95KViews13likes7CommentsVPN Support (NordVPN, ExpressVPN etc...)
Router package made me believe that router had VPN support to other service providers. I though that you can just simply upload .ovpn file or just put information there but no?? It's 2020 and it wasn't supported so I returned my router and bought ASUS. ASUS got everything already setup and it took maby 2 minutes to activate.488Views3likes1Commentclient vpn for rax80
