6 TopicsReadyNAS Pro rebooting and resyncing, with file copy hangups and other issues
I have been using a ReadyNAS Pro RNDP6350-100NAS for many years as a home music server (Logitech Media Server) and backup for my PC and data files. Firmware is 4.2.30. It has not been 100% stable for some time, often hanging on a file copy or other processing activity involving about 200 MB or more. I use Windows 7 Professional with its Explorer file manager, and usually have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the Task Manager Applications list to End Process to stop operations that will not complete. The odd thing to me is that after 2-3 rounds of this brute-force intervention at the beginning of a session, my system would run stable for all or most the rest of the day. Then, it would occur again after I haven't used it for a while. The last year or so, it has been close to only 10% remaining space in the volume. I had been using auto spindown after 30 minutes, but recently increased the time to 60 minutes. Now it reboots often and sometimes resyncs, mostly during drive activity but sometimes by itself. I recently expanded two of six disks from 2tb to 4tb, using Seagate ST4000VNB08 Ironwolf drives to replace drives with reallocated sector and command timeout problems. The volume expansion occured as normal after rebuilding with the second 4tb disk, but then it resynced about three times before seeming to be stable. It has since resynced a couple more times in the past few days, but mostly it just keeps rebooting when I try to use it. Having a look at the logs, in the past I think it has been rebooting more than I realize because it is in a separate room and I don't hear it. I don't see any problems with the current set of drives as indicated in the Frontview Smart info tables for each drive. Today I took apart the chassis and unplugged and replugged each of the power supply (PSU) connectors a few times to see if there might be corrosion building up, possibly causing the rebooting and other problems I am experiencing. I also did a thorough vaccum. So far, this has made no difference. I ran four memory test passes yesterday, with no errors for the 3gb memory (both slots in use). I wonder if the ST4000VNB08 drives are supported? They seem to have had the normal Seagate model # updates to the original ST4000VN000 that is listed on the Netgear ReadyNAS approved list, which says this drive "should" work. Regardless, the unit has not been 100% for some time, so I am not sure whether the new drives have created any of the more recent problems. I recently ran an offline file check and data scrub without errors. At this stage, I wonder if it needs a new PSU, or if there is a software fix? I'd rather not get a new unit, but I realize these things don't last forever. Fortunately, I have a recent, nearly 100% backup, spanned across multiple USB drives. Comments and suggestions much appreciated. Thanks! Some Recent Logs: Mon May 22 19:04:27 EDT 2017 System is up. Mon May 22 18:02:04 EDT 2017 System is up. Mon May 22 17:44:59 EDT 2017 System is up. Hi All, So yesterday I got home to find my RN104 had frozen, with the error "ext4_writepage+478" displayed on the front. It would respond to pings on the network, but all other access was unresponive (GUI, SSH etc). The only option was to pull the plug. On restarting, it is now re-syncing data to Drive 3, which is going to take a while given I have 4 x4TB (10TB Net) drives in the box. The drives are all WD Red's and less than a year old so am relatively sure it wouldnt be a true drive fault - no SATA errors are reported. Only recent change was upgrade to firmware 6.7.5 on June 28th. Anyone else experienced this? I have captured the logs ready for any passing experts ;-) CHeers, Nick5.6KViews0likes20Commentslifesupp! message
Hi, I got this message, "lifesupp! message", while doing a resync (complete history follows) and I think I need some help from experts due the previous messages in this forum about this error. - My nas is a ReadyNas Pro with 6 bays, all equipped and disks were synced. - After a failure in disk 2 I procced to replace it but, during the resync, the disk 6 started to report failures. - At some point I got the following mail from the NAS: > Complete RAID volume synchronization in C. However, the array is still degraded mode. This may be due to failure of disk synchronization damaged or the presence of a disk array in multiple parity disks. - Looking at /proc/mdstat gives me this information: > Personalities : [raid0] [raid1] [raid10] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] > md2 : active raid5 sdf5[8](S) sda5[0] sde5[7](F) sdd5[4] sdc5[6] sdb5[2] > 9743966480 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 16k chunk, algorithm 2 [6/4] [U_UUU_] > md1 : active raid6 sdf2[8] sda2[0] sde2[6] sdd2[4] sdc2[7] sdb2[2] > 2096896 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [6/6] [UUUUUU] > md0 : active raid1 sdf1[8] sda1[0] sde1[7] sdd1[4] sdc1[6] sdb1[2] > 4194292 blocks super 1.2 [6/6] [UUUUUU] > unused devices: <none> - Status in control panel So, the question now is: what are the following steps? I have ssh access and a good technical background. Thanks.Solved2.8KViews0likes2CommentsReadyNAS hung/frozen during resync (reshape)
Title pretty much says it all. I have a 314 running 6.9.1 with 6TB+ disks in all four bays. Three days ago, I removed an HGST 6TB drive in bay 4 and inserted a brand new Seagate 10TB in its place. The resync/expansion proceeded without incident, but the subsequent reshape process has been frozen at 78.41% for over 12 hours. The NAS is completely inaccessible over the network, even via ping. I received no notifications about failing disks or disk errors prior to the system freeze. My question now is: What can I do from here? Can I safely power down the NAS in order to test the disks? Can I simply reboot?Solved2.2KViews0likes5CommentsError: DO_RAW_SPIN_LOCK+C, need to resync...
Hi, I think it's after a reboot... I rebooted my ReadyNAS 104 then went to job, then realised I wasn't able to access it... Came back to home and it's displaying: DO_RAW_SPIN_LOCK+C.... I went so stressed, because I already lost some data with this tons of errors I did in the past. it's running since fresh "format" on x-raid 3x4TB WD Reds... The only things I recently done different, is trying of doing a snapshot of my Thicks LUNs iSCSI... Now it will resync for 3-5 days, then I'll do a backup, I can currently access the shares and the web interface.... Any suggestion on what's bad? I downloaded the log... And don't want to lose my (some new) datas, it's priceless... Thanks!Solved2KViews0likes7CommentsUnable to log in to ReadyNAS (RN31600)
Hi, I am restructuring my NASes and I jut installed 6 new Seagate IronWolf 4TB drives into my ReadyNAS RN31600 nas and I have been locked out of the device as my password and the default password for this device are not recognised. The NAS is still "resyncing" the drives, is that the reason why I cannot log in. I thoght I saw a message flash past saying a factory reset was just done, but the default password does not work at all. Will I be able to log in once it has resynced the drives? Thank you in advance, Rick.Solved871Views0likes1Comment
