"5000sf house" capable with rave reviews from son in huge "new" 2st house, signals even out into great back yard solve my 1500sf boomarang shapred house Linksys woes as a replacement, ezy-pzy but Living room sat. backhaul status GOOD through mostly glass ~30' away from main router uh-oh MBR sat. backhaul status POOR through foil + shtrock/wood stud walls x4 ~30' away from main router Mystery is .... POOR locations get superior internet speed checks, while GOOD locations back there get puny, ineffective internet speeds Hello? What? WHY? In progress, are blind tweaks in progress 1. tomorrow replacing Cat6e router cables with Cat7 + long enough (15') to relocate main router away from these walls a bit (now mounted close to ceiling, near exterior glass ... of little help) We are connected to Suddenlink cable (200Gbps) and have a new drop, new smart TVs 2. moved Liv sat. so can have a chance to communicate through windows to help reach MBR sat. 3. all moves made to MBR sat. have failed to improve on current location & internet speeds, even when assisted with Android software bird dog = Wifi Analyzer free software, even ot other adjacent rooms, so consider this a dead horse worth no more floggingHOW FAR APART can router satellite be?
So I am reading a "solved" question that never gets a straight answer, not even one "if everything were perfect" one, just generizations & what ifs and don't-blame-me-later due to a wrong answer ... 1 Kudo earned, really?. UGH Again HOW FAR APART can router satellite be? 1. in order for a GOOD signal be reported 2. for highest speed internet produced I would expect a manufacturer rep/tech to KNOW this, if only IDEAL conditions, e.g. open air field, line of sight or across a lake, line of sight as one posted in the referenced community Q that failed to gain any answer in feet. Next up would be through single/dbl pane glass (windows), as this distance could solve many problems and cut down on tech support woes, put the cokkies on the bottom shelf. After that I DO understand as architect the implications of hurtles such as sheetrock, wood studs, even insulation, especially foil faced, then metal roofs ... similar to cell phone woes. Here I see generalizations might apply BUT no solutions ever given, e.g. cut a piece of that foil out to create "line of sight" to a brother satellite or mother router! What about bouncing sigals off sheetrcok walls, ala billards? ,,, and other ideas that have worked for others?AC1750 Channel Selection and Signal Quality
I have a C6300 Wifi cable modem router that I cannot seem to obtain a quality signal with and need assistance. The singal strength seems to be good with MOST of my devices and the connection speed with my direct connection devices are flawless. However, when it comes to getting calls with Skype for Business in a wireless connection, my expereince drops significantly. There has got to be something I can to to enhance my signal so I can take calls wile on a wireless network. And to make matters worse, I am in an apartment complex so there are a fair share of devices surrounding me. I attempted to change my channel on the 5GHz side to be on a channel that has the least congestion, but the channel does not seem to stick. What am I missing? Is there any sugesstions in improving my quality and speed of my Wifi connection? I have tried different DNS servers like Google and CloudFlare, but they seemed to have slowed my connection rather than make it faster. The thing that does not make sense is that the admin page does not show a channel for GHz and even my NetSpot application shows my 5GHz being 2.4GHz, I do not get it.1.1KViews0likes2CommentsWireless Performance Mixing AC3000 / AC2200
Current system: RBK50 (claims up to 5,000sq ft) coverage. FW v1.12.0.18 Home: 2 story 2,600sq ft, nothing significant from a construction or interference stand point. RBR50 on first floor left side of house. RBS50 on second floor middle of structure. While the orbi has improved sustained throughput to most wireless devices, its signal does not deliver (not even close) to the theoretical sq footage estimate. This was the primary reason for the purchase and is for the most part largely disappointing. I'd rate it at 2,500sq ft maximum. I'm not going through bricks, metal or glass (nothing crazy). Have messed withthe MIMO and beamforming settings as well. Sorry netgear, fail thus far. I'm really not interested in purchasing another RBS50 for $250 when the current broadcast performace is only marginally better in comparison to a WNDR4500 or R6400 that served the house previously. I expected a little bit more from a signal (broadcast) perspective. Comparitively, the R7000 at my other house does better broadcast (signal) wise. New FW: So I see Netgear has v2.x FW available which I am going to try later today. I'll try turning the broadcast power to 10 and see if things improve. We have no neighbors so I won't be "unfriedly" from that perspective. Now my question. If I put a RBW30 (AC2200) in the "mostly dead" room - which happens to be the room directly above where the RBR50 is now... what will this do to the systems throughput? Please, before everyone replies with their speculation (or what they think) please be certain or have something concrete to backup your answer. Network bandwidth whether maximum or theoretical (in a wireless specific situation) can be affected by a device with slower front/backhaul. In this case a AC2200 sattelite on the AC3000 network. Thus far, I haven't found any documention that answers this question. Great if the AC2200 opearates "isolated" without affecting the entire networks bandwidth, but I'd like to get confirmation on this before investing further in this solution. I hope the v2 FW will improve the broadcast signal strength, as this is my only real complain with the orbi. Throughput is there, I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot and cripple what I have. Wish the SRK60 was available when I purchased the RBK50. I would have gladly spent the additional money.
Our Nighthawk router just suddenly stopped transmitting the wireless signal a few days ago. I have a PS4 that's connected via an Ethernet cable that goes from the modem, to the router, to the PS4, and it's still connected to internet. So I know Comcast isn't the problem, and the modem isn't the problem. On the front of the router, the power light, the internet light, and the the (Ethernet) 1 light are on, but the lights for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are off. I've tried disconnecting and restarting both the modem and the router, but the router still has the same problem. Anyone have any ideas?Solved81KViews0likes2CommentsTurn off wireless schedule not working as intended
Not sure if its because of the new firmware, but i am not getting the "turn off wirless by schedule" working as intended. Say for example i set period start 9am to 6pm. The wifi signal would go off in 8:30am and when its over 6pm. The wifi do not turn on itself. I have to login to admin page and found that the "enable wireless radio" box was unchecked. To turn the wifi signal back, i have to check the box and apply the setting. This have been going on since day 3 i ever use this feature and it does not make sense. Any one else have this issue? I have fed up and switch back to the normal settings without using this feature. Will monitor my connection these few days and will update. One thing i do notice though, the new firmware has been causing disconnect issue even worse. Not sure if this is the cause. But seems every roll out of new update, the router connection becomes unstable. How do we block auto update of the firmware?Devices plugged into ports of my WN2500RP extender loose connection to internet
So I am setting up our new satellite office for the law firm I work for. Our new landlord graciousely provides free wi-fi to his tenants. His netgear router is on the second floor while our office is on the first floor. I can pick up the signal ok but I have ran into a dilema. We are using two voip net phones which both need a physical ethernet port on a gateway or access point to function. So we are extending the wi-fi signal with the extender so as to plug in the voip phones into its provided ethernet ports. Everything works just fine untill thr PC we are using for the office shuts down or restarts. At that point the phones both loose connection even though they are not physically plugged into the PC and only plugged into the ports of the extender and a power outlet. Rhis is problamatic because I have specifically set up the pc to allow the SSHD to easily be connected or disconnected. As we do not staff the satellite office full time we are reluctant to leave the office unattended with sensitive client data stored on the pc. So we need to be able to bring the drive to the office and take it with us when we leave. Unfortunately it appears that the extender cannot keep the network signal routed through the ports without relying on the computers wireless connection to the extended ssid. That means without leaving the pc on we cant receive calls or faxes to the office. Does anyone know of a viable solution to this problem?4.5KViews0likes4Comments
