6 TopicsQuestion on creating multiple Wireless VLANs for Security (IoT devices, Family WiFi, Guest WiFi)
Hey Everyone, I'm in the process of re-doing (re-designing) my entire Home Network. I've decided to go the VLAN route for both Wired and Wireless devices. From a security standpoint, I would like to have all of my IoT / Smart Devices (Amazon Echo's, Ring Doorbell Pro, etc., bla bla) on their own Wireless VLAN. I would also like to have a Wireless VLAN just for visiting friends/family/guests. Lastly, I would like to have a Wireless VLAN for the members of my immediate household. Ideally, I would like to create a specific VLAN for both Wireless and Wired devices, for my immediate household that is. Here is what I currently have in terms of hardware: 1. - I have an Orbi RBR50 w/ 2x Satellites. From what I can see, the Orbi Router seems to only support basic VLAN tagging. However, the ORBI does allow for you to create a 'Guest WiFi' and restrict users from even seeing/interacting with each other and etc. As weird as it may seem, my CenturyLink Fiber Modem seems to have more options for VLAN Management than the Orbi. 2. - I have 2x ZyXEL switches, a GS1900-8 (8-Port) and a GS1900-24E (24-Port). According to their specs they support the following VLAN/QoS specs: Traffic Management and QoS • Port-based VLAN • IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging • IEEE 802.3ad LACP • Guest VLAN • Voice VLAN • Storm control • IEEE 802.1p priority queues per port • IEEE 802.1p Queuing method (scheduler) • Input priority mapping • Rate limiting per port (ingress/ egress) • IEEE 802.3x flow control So that said, since I would like to do some VLAN Magic as stated above, is there a way to do this with the my current hardware? Or do I need to purchase additional hardware like an Netgear Router or a little EdgeRouterX or something? Also, I'm trying to understand...since I'm using the Orbi RBR50 w/ Two Satellites...I'm not sure how I can create additional WiFi VLANs without adding additional APs or other equipment? Any thoughts and recommendations welcome!! BJConnecting Seagate PersonalCloud to Orbi RBK30
Hi, I have a Seagate 3TB Personal Cloud that I'm trying to connect (wired, no wifi) to my Orbi router. However, it's not showing up on my network. VLAN/Bridge group is enabled due to my ISP's settings. Any ideas on how I can get the PersonalCloud device to connect? TIA.VLAN tag group VLAN ID edit
Please advise on how to change VLAN ID for Internet port (not port 1, 2, or 3) on Orbi. Edit function fails. Steps to reproduce: Advanced Setup - VLAN/Bridge Settings Check Enable VLAN/Bridge Group Check By VLAN tag group Check default Internet group (has VLAN ID 10) Edit, change ID to 201, apply. Change doesn’t stick, VLAN ID stays 10VLAN Tagging for Guest Network
I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past on this forum, but all of them appear to be kinda old, and before you could uncheck the "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP mode. Now it looks like you can uncheck that in the version of firmware that I have (1.11.0.20). I have my own router/DHCP/firewall/gateway that I want to keep using, so I have put my Orbi network into AP only mode. However, I would still like to have a guest network that I'm able to separate at my router. I would like to do this via VLAN tagging. So my questions are: Is this something that Orbi is capable of now? If not, is this something that will be available in the future? And if so, is there a way to be notified when it is available? What actually happens when you uncheck "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP only mode? Does the Orbi just start NAT'ing and serving it's own DHCP at that point? Lastly, assuming that it's not already a thing, I would like to chime in with others here and say that I would REALLY like to see VLAN tagging as an option in the advanced interface.Orbi vlan + wireless printer via usb
Will the USB port on the Orbi router or Orbi sattelite support wireless printing via plugged in printer very soon? Also why does the Orbi not support vLAN tagging out of the box, which has me hoping this also is coming very soon, the Nighthawk range supports both. I'd like to use Orbi as primary router with Vodafone Fibre an currently it's current setup is capped by these limitations.Orbi Respect vLAN Settings
Hello All. I am not seeing the Orbi respect per client vLAN tagging. For instance I have a Meraki MX-100 Firewall\Router. One of the things I can do there is to tag clients with a group policy that then will apply a specific vLAN. For instance, I have 3 vLANs, 1 is my personal network, a second is the VPN to the office, the third is for IoT devices. If I put a policy to my cell phone that should put me on my work network, it appears to apply from the Meraki side, however it is stil only getting an IP on the same vLAN as the orbi. Appears that the Orbi isn't respecting the vLAN settings. Anyone else successfully used vLANs on the switch side and then apply them to the Orbi connected clients?
