It would be immensely helpful to be able to add/edit names of client devices. It would be heck of a lot easy to figure out what each device is... Should be whatever system gets by default and then allowing user to edit, so I can name something like "Printer by Coffee machine"

Hi, In France, we must be able to provide our internet wifi logs for 1 year. With or Without captive portal. I know we can do it with captiv portal (web history). But actually we can not do it if we don't use captive portal. I can find in the management interface of wifi access point WAXxxx the possibility to activate "url tracking" but logs doesn't stay for a long time and we need to connect to each wifi access point to find and download them. We know we can do it with snmp too but custommers will need a new system to manage it. It coudl be very useful to have the possibility to activate url tracking from insight. By this way we could have the possibility to generate the web history (internet logs) for all access points/devices/SSID without captive portal. Captiv portal is not ergonomic for inside machine and users. Thanks in advanced fir your reply

Netgear Insight, although I think targeted toward businesses, does not support compliant WPA2 Enterprise. It forces TKIP+AES mixed mode. It is impossible to enforce WPA2 Enterprise on an Insight managed device. The devices are capable, but you have to unmanage a device and set CCMP-AES manually on the local interface, and that AP can never be managed by Insight, or it will change the encryption from AES back to TKIP+AES mixed mode.

When building a guest network in Insight, it's important to be able to rate limit throughput per client so that no one client can consume all available bandwidth on that SSID/vLan. It can be accomplished via QoS on the APs themselves, but Inisght will not recognize those configs and the config change wouldn't be replicated to other APs. Additionally, the QoS config may be destroyed by Inisght upon config updates. Instructions for configuring QoS at the AP level: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Business-Wireless/How-do-I-limit-bandwidth-per-device-on-a-WAC730/m-p/1767103

In the client section of the Insight App, it would be useful to see additional information against each device, for instance, which channel frequency are they using 2.4 to 5Ghz, what channel are they using, what 802.11xx mode are they using, what WPA mode did they authenticate with, the RSSI signal strength, are they using a private MAC address (on a modern phone) - adding fields (and others) such as these into the Client's page would help with diagnosing connection problems. Also would be good to be able to click on a client in the browser and see its history, so when it connect, disconnect, change AP if roamed, connect again etc, so we can see a history of the wireless client with relevant fields that will allow us to diagnose connectivity problems.

Limiting the antenna power to levels like 100%, 50%, 25%, etc. is ridiculous and severly limits fine tuning it to the local radio enviroment. Please update to allow changing it to values from 1 dBm to 18 (20) dBm like a normal person.

Would you please allow the WAC720 access points to be usable on Insight? Without Insight compatibility, impending discontinuation of Business Central will remove cloud management functionality from these devices that were purchased only 1 year ago. Thank you in advance!

We are looking to use manage accounts for households using Insight and the Orbi Pro. Right now, the Insight portal needs some help. Here are some things I wish it could do: Allow you to rename clients so they are identified easier Only the Router shows up in devices and not the satellite so if someone unplugs the satellite, you don't get any kind of a notification. No way to set up port forwarding remotely. Have to use the local orbilogin.net and be onsite If you make a change using the cloud, there is nothing that tells you that config is being pushed to the devices. They should have a status like "configuring" or something... You just have to wait and hope the the command worked. I will say that the portal and app make it very hard to find information. Like notifications being under Account Management? That is very un-intuative. Other than these things and the delay of using the cloud, I think it is a good solution. It just needs some work.

Firmware V5.10.0.3 The old FVS338 had all of the below features and worked great. I'm surprised and very disappointed they are missing from the BR500. Custom services are always enabled unless deleted. An enable/disable check box on each service would be very useful. Currently you have to delete the custom service to disable and create the custom service from scratch to enable. This extremely inconvenient. There is a severe security problem with port forwarding custom services. Open ports are exposed to the whole world. The ability to limit port exposure to a specific external IP or a range of specific IPs would solve this security problem. It is extremely important to implement this safeguard.

Is Engineering actually reviewing and making decisions on these forums; if so, why is so much blank in the other status? There is nothing more dispiriting than being invited to comment, then taking the time to do it, then it appearing to go into a black hole with nothing by radio silence. The best products succeed by remaining relevant to solving customers problems, obviously, this has to be done not in a bespoke way but a generic way, and the best way to do that is to listen and engage. The more problems your products solve, the better word of mouth which hopefully captures new customers form existing ones, the better the brand image appears, the happy the customer, the greater success - its a win-win for all. Forums which appear to engage but fail to list and explain create tastes, negative feelings and bad brands. If this truly is a place to engage with product manage on issues, ideas and new features with Product Management at Netgear, I would expect some moderate, sensible engagement with the very people that determine what will go in and what won't. This is how "challenger" banks became so disruptive, by listening, doing things differently, taking votes from customers on roadmap items, and continuing to listen....and what a success story that has been! Product management can be hard, but existing customers are an endless source of new ideas, of creative ways that can be competitive, and differentiating, and should be listened to. Have a voting system if there are enough people to help - but above all a product which remains relevant really continues to sell the brand for ever. please engage on here.

I have a network that has 3 x WAX610 (which by the way are missing from the model dropdown on this forum) and 3 x WAX540 (which we still use). We have a lot of radios and may even need to have some more. However, all the Radio and SSSID have to be managed at the "network location" level and are then shared to each AP. We have one set of SSIDS and one set of Radio settings for 802.xx (irrespective of the AP device capability) which are rolled out. This can cause a problem as all the same SSIDs have to used which you may not want to expose to some locations, and all the radio channels have to also operate the same which you may not want, and indeed may cause problems on older devices, which makes buying new 802.11ax devices redundant if you have to set them at 802.11g For instance we have issues with some devices connecting to the WAX610 when its in 802.11ax mode but work fine on the WAX540 when its in 802.bg mode, but if we set that mode then we lose the advantage to the other devices running on later model that can take advantage of the WAX610. So having this all WIFI data configured and fixed across the network sounds great, but makes it impossible (unless you disconnect the devices from Insight) to give each AP its own settings for the purpose you intended it for. But there is an EASY solution! It would be much better in each "network location" to be able to create a Wifi Radio Setting, which controls the radio channels, and another which controls the Wifi SSIDs, just like they do now...and have these saved as pre-defined group presets, so you could have Radio Settings (ie channels and frequencies) - Front Entrance - Fast 802.11ax Main Floor - Slow 802.11bg Main floor - Outside SSIDS (name, fast roaming, wpa etc) - Front Entrance - Internal - External And then in each of the APs you have then referenc the pre-set group settings you've created which are then deployed to be used on that AP AP1 - Foyer Radio: Front Entrance SSIDS: External AP2 - Main Floor 1 (WAX610) Radio: Fast 802.11ax Main Floor SSIDS: Internal AP3 - Main Floor 2 (WAC540) Radio: Slow 802.11bg Main floor SSDIS: Internal etc As you can see from the above example, this would give greater control to allow different APs to exist with specific (radio channel, 802.11x mode, and SSID) settings to how you expect them to be used with the clients and still all be managed centrally and WITHIN insight instead of outside. The only way around this is to create a different location which complicates the management immensely and defects having a consolidated view of your network devices.

I would like to propose a new feature to the Insight Web and Mobile portals. Specifcally, I propose that there be an option to turn off and/or limit to certain channels/devices the "Enable Neighbor AP" scanning. The option to turn it off exists on the local web UI for the WAC540 (the particular Access Point I use) and it is also possible on the local Web UI to turn on/off for just certain Channels. In addition, a user can set the frequency of the scanning (Mild/Medium/Aggressive). I have noticed that this scanning causes regular packet loss for any client connected to the device, which causes regular (brief) freezing on Video/VOIP calls. I tested by removing a device from the Insight Controller and turning off the "Enable Neighbor AP" scanning as well as setting the mild/med/aggressive options. Setting to mild resulted in less packet loss. Setting to agressive causes more frequent packet loss. Once you re-connect a device to the Insight Controller, the option to check "Enable Neighbor AP" is grayed out on the local Web UI. It's also not possible on the Insight Web portal or the Insight Mobile app to set "Enable Neighbor AP" option. With all the people using these devices to connect to/from remote locations (as a result of COVID), frequent, even if brief, freezes in responsiveness mean that this Insight feature gap represents a significant limitation of the Insight Controller.

Hi, I purchased 2x WAC540 units with the absolute expectation of being able to dedicate/reserve/lock the 5GHz High Band for Bridge backhaul only, given that this is mentioned as a headline feature. However it appears that even though a particular Band is used for Bridge mode, normal clients can pick this band for their connectivity, and since it's a more performant band, all 5GHz-capable clients prefer it. I don't want to use the 5GHz Low Band for Bridge mode since it's half the bandwidth of the 5GHz High Band, and as we know already with Bridges, badnwidth is halved by their very nature. I raised a ticket with NETGEAR and the reply was that this feature is only available with the Insight Subscription, and that I should raise it as a feature request. This feature "lockout" to paid subscription is NOT mentioned ANYWHERE in the documentation for these models which is really poor form. If it is, it is not easily found! For now I have set the max number of clients on the 5GHZ High Band to be 1 to reduce contention. The simplest thing for NETGEAR to introduce in a firmware update is allowing the max clients setting to be zero but that would not be very intuitive. A better option is to be able to choose which 5GHz Bands can be used for client SSIDs; at the moment we have radio buttons (which is single choice) to choose between: 2.4GHz 5GHz Both It needs to be checkbox buttons (so multiple choice) to choose a combination of: 2.4GHz 5GHz Low 5GHz High You could drop the Both (All) option since checking all of them is the equivalent. An equally better option would be able to click a button that says "Dedicate this Band for Bridge mode only" when creating a Bridge. I get that these APs a designed for Business/Enterprise WiFi where Insight subscriptions 100% make sense, but the features they provide just aren't available in SOHO/Home WiFi models and my setup is such that I need to Bridge between 2 houses only, for sharing internet, NAS, printing etc. I am a home consumer buying Business/Enterprise kit. Thanks

I have a BR500 and purchased the Insight Instant VPN service for it. Overall, the Insight Instant VPN service is nice as I can manage who I let into the VPN and It's an easy way to get into my routers network remotely. While I can get the VPN to work from my home Windows based PC, I also have several Linux machines that I would like to be able to connect to the VPN with. I've already been in contact with support and the conclusion was that this is somehow not supported or they had no settings they could give me to manually configure a connection. I'd be happy with just some settings that I could use to manually configure a connection to the Inisight Instant VPN on Linux (e.g., Protocol, Gateway, etc.). If for some reason there is something that can't be disclosed then a Linux version of the app would be great too. I just want to be able to use the service through my Linux machines.

It would be great, if there is a feature for the BR500 and WAC540 to allow us to change the client name, which we can then recognize as to which devices are on the network, etc., through the Insight Application and also on the admin page and to have a feature as well on these two devices to have parental controls as well, if businesses are using it for their work, whilst working from home, etc. Also, another suggestion of a feature under "Block Sites" in the back end of the admin page that you can just type "Pornography", "Explicit Content", which it will block all sites internationally on the website, instead of us having to mention the "Keyword and Domain Name" on it. Businesses would like to have it as well, because they want their employees to work safely on the network, etc. Lastly, it would be great if the WC540 could be supplied with a Power Supply in the box as well, instead of purchasing it separately. Thank you.

Greetings. This request is fairly straightforward, but could add great value for a small business user without a dedicated IT function. More specifically, it would be beneficial to add basic guest network functionality with a separate IP address range to the WAX6x0 family of products since this is the primary differentiator between most readily available home office/SMB mesh systems and the WAX6x0. With the current iteration of the firmware, a user is forced to create a new dedicated VLAN and associated address range at the router to pass to the WAX6x0 to gain such functionality. This may seem straightforward to many in the community, but the price point of the WAX6x0 series will attract users that simply do not have the IT support or background to implement the upstream changes needed to successfully segregate guest traffic to a separate VLAN. Thank you.

I don't think this is possible, as I've not found a way to do this at all, but in the Clients tab, I have a growling list of disconnected clients that just won't even be here again - some clients were transitory - so how does this list get managed so that clients which are no longer of any interested can be removed instead of this growing into a monster database table? Can NetGlear place a button to remove discovered disconnected clients since if they appear again, they will just be rediscovered to keep the client's table running quick/smooth without unnecessary data from transient clients?
