Cannot update firmware on Orbi App, Satelittes not found on Orbi App

Hello,

My I have the RBR50 with 2 satellites.  I have 2 major problems.

1) My firware version is V2.5.1.6 and I know there is a version 2.7.1.60.  The Orbi App says "update" and I go through the whole process and it does not work.  Then I connected my computer to the Router with an ethernet, downloaded the firmware from Netgear, and tried a manual update.  This does not work either.  I reset the router, I rebooted the router.  Nothing will work to update firmware!  What is wrong?

2) When I lgo into my router with 192.168.1.1 I see the 2 satellites.  The Orbi App ONLY shows the router and no satelites.  It shows everything connected only to the router when the log in page on my computer shows that various things are connected to the satelites.

I am frustrated that I have to log into the computer instead of the app.  I have deleted the app and downloaded again. I have tried different devices.  Nothing works - the network map shows only the router.

Thank you!

  • I recommend using the RBRs web page rather then the Orbi app. Seen others post about using the Orbi app for a FW update and it messes things up.

Use a wired PC and the RBRs web page to update the entire system or you can manually update FW as well. Update the RBS first then RBR lastly. I manually update my system using this and work fine.

There is a more recent v2.7 FW if you wish. However this is only for USA region users:

I would factory reset and setup from scratch after loading FW to ensure it's all working well.

Thank you for the kind response!

Unfortunately, it says "500 Internal Server Error"

      1) I connected computer to orbi router with ethernet

      2) I navigated to manual firmware update on 192.168.1.1

      3) I saved the most recent update from the website in a zip file, extracted the zip file, saved it as an img file from the browse funtion

      4) Hit upload and I get the "500 interal server error"

I have no idea what to do now.  Thank you for any direction.

What browser are you using? Try FireFox or Edge or Opera GX. Be sure there are no browser add-ons enabled.

Try a factory reset on the RBR and set up the RBR from scratch. you can do this with out the ISP Modem connected as well. Get to the main screen on the RBR then manually update using the FW file.

  • I recommend you not upgrading via the website and doing it manually and waiting for the automatic process to work.

      Nice

I recommend you upgrade via the website and do NOT do it manually or wait for the automatic process to work.

      then enjoy your orbi

if it works leave it alone

Obviously writing on a phone isn’t the best. However the automatic process should work and everyone just recommending to do it manually should stop saying that.

        And that meant to say
I recommend you upgrade it with the app automatically and contact Netgear until it works. Do not upgrade it via the manual process that involves there website.

Just want to add a second time stop advising people to do it manually like it’s some beta software that can’t handle the “automatic” process.
