Deadzones help with Orbi
Hi all,
We recently moved to a home, 2,100, SF ranch. We have AT&T's 1G fiber, with their Arris BGW210 installed in the far bedroom. The bandwidth in that room is great, 550MB Up, 600MB, down. As you move from room to room it gets worse, as expected. I have literally little signal in the bonus room upstairs, above a garage.
I am considering getting a mesh system to correct the problem. I read about the Orbi Ac2200. My question to you is will this solve my issue, and is their anything I need to do on the settings with the AT&T router? Is the set-up with the Orbi simple to install?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Whit 2100 sq ft, you may only need the orib router. The router alone can cover 2100sq ft if place centrally. You need about 30 feet in between a Orbi router and the satellite to start.
The ISP modem/router:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, LAN to LAN and configure AP mode on the Orbi router.- Runner220Aspirant
Hi Furrye38,
Thank you for the reply. The U-verse service we have is installed at the far bedroom, where their fiber connection is located. I have to keep the Orbi there as the connection point. The challenge will be the loss of signal throughout the home, particulary in the upstaris bonus room, which will be my office. Do you have any suggestions with that set-up needed? I have read people are configuring the AT&T router, which I could do, but I am not sure of any set-up or changes to make on it.
Thank you

I have similar set up, IP modem upstairs far side of 5000sq ft home. So thats were my Orbi router sits and my 1 satellite sits at the opposite end of the house. Complete coverage with 40 feet in between the router and satellite.
ATT Uverse modems can't be fully bridged, so I recommend using its DMZ feature for the Orbi router. Set up a IP address reservation ON the modem for the Orbi router. Then input this IP address into the DMZ. Disable ALL wireless radios ON the modem. Also find and disable uPnP on the modem as well. Then just use the modem as the service interface for the Orbi router and connect all your devices to the Orbi system.

I would first take a look at the modem and see where the IP address reservation is. Set up IP address reservation for the Orbi router. I should already have an IP address. If it does, just use this and make sure the modem is configured for the IP Address RESERVATION. This will help keep the same IP address for the Orbi router.
Then find the DMZ feature. May say DMZ plus. Input the IP address you set for the Orbi router in to this DMZ. Save these settings.
Find the wireless section of the modem and find any place were you can disable the wifi radios, maybe under some basic setting or under advanced. I'm not too familair with ATT modems so you'll have to snoop around till you find it...
Same for uPnP and firewall on the modem, disable this as well. Won't be needed since you'll be connecting everything to the Orbi system.
After you find and make these changes, save settings along the way, reboot the modem first, then reboot the Orbi router 2nd. You should be good to go then.
