Firmware update - msg - Looks like you’re not connected xxxx

Hi,

I have the latest 'Xfinity' box and upgraded to 1G speeds.  In my two story home I get 600-700 or os dowload speeds when I'm next to the router.  The Orbi satellite is downstairs and I cannot connect to the wifi (90 percent of the time).  No wifi connection which is weird because w/out the Orbi and just the Xfinity router, I can get better wifi connection.  I reset the Orbi satellite via the reset button and nothing has changed.

I was trying to update the firmware by following the orbi manual instructions but when I login to orbilogin.com it stating " Looks like you’re not connected to your Orbi’s WiFi network. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. Try the following steps to get connected:"  No matter if I clear the browser cache etc.

So I have two problems:

Can't upgrade the firmware - current v2.3.5.26

Wifi not working on satellite - RBR20

Comcast router model - XB6-A

Thanks in advance

  • Would help to know how you are administering the Orbi system:

    • computer of some sort usiing a web browser, or
    • the Orbi "app"

A lot of customers elect to disable the WiFi on their ISP modem/WiFi/router to reduce WiFi interference in the house.

The specific firmware version is not likely to affect whether devices can connect to the Orbi WiFi or not.  There is likely something else to be addressed rather than the firmware level.

  • IF the ISP modem has a built in router already, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

You can get v16 FW from here if you want to manually download and install.

Install the RBS first then RBR lastly.
