I’m experiencing network outages in my outages in my area

Hello I’m experiencing network outages in my outages in my area.

If they are just related to a temporary glitch in my network provider modem, that is connected via LAN cable to my orbi the local network with all my smart devices stays operational.

During longer outages the WiFi stays on and you can still connect to it but my EWLINK app doe not see my smart locks and most importantly I’m not able even to log in to my router via the Orbi app. To check on the orbi status. This is absolutely terrible as with all modems it was always possible to connect to their internal setup page via their specific IP address number.

Is there a way to make the system less dependent on a active Internet connection? For both the orbi setup app page and maintaining at least a LAN functionality for my smart home. As all my smart devices have the LAN functionality turned on for this reason.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

If your experiencing issues with the ISP modem, then you'll need to contact the ISP and have them help you check there signal lines up to the modem and ensure the modem is in good working order. That is there responsibility.

Might set up some IP address reservations on the Orbi RBR for your devices:

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

The Orbi 'app' supports two methods of connecting the smartphone running the app with the router:

    • Anywhere Access, which appears to be the default method.  This requires the router to have an internet connection (which disappears during an outage0.
    • Local Access, which requires the smartphone to be connected to the Orbi WiFi network. (At least one time, the 'app' requires the user to enter the web admin password.)

When the next outage occurs, try this:

    • Ensure that the smartphone is connected to the Orbi WiFi.
    • If it asks for the web admin password, enter it.
    • If it does not connect to the router, open the 'hamburger menu' (upper left of screen), select the top line (where it shows the router) and see if selecting the router brings up two options (Anywhere Access and Local Connection Available).

For the other apps, if they require internet access because of the way they are designed and implemented, there is nothing the user can do when the local internet connection is not working.
