Is it possible to connect one satellite wired and the other through Wifi

Since couple days I own a RBK53v2 Mesh Wifi system.

One of my satellites has sometimes poor connection (it even connects on 2.4GHz time to time)  to avoid bad connection on this satellite, I have connected to the RBR50 with a CAT5e network cable.

But somehow it wont connect through the LAN, it always connects throug the Wifi, several times booting all devices does not change anything. Also tried to enable and disable Daisy-Chain Topology, but that doesn't change anything either.

Am I doing something wrong? Like having only one satellite connected through wire and the other throug Wifi? I have choosen this option, because the other satellite is working good with no connection issues, and there is no possibility to get a ethernet cable to that good working satellite.

The firmware on all devices is V2.5.1.8

There are two Netgear ProSafe GS108E switches connected to the RBR50 on port 2 and 3

I have around 8 wired devices and 24 wireless devices connected (home automation, phones and laptops on wifi)

Yes like I mentioned on my first post, there is only one satellite connected, on port one (directly next to the yellow WAN port) at RBR50 and on port one directly next to SYNC button at RBS50.

The Netgear ProSafe GS108E appears to be a wonderful "managed" switch.  However, I have seen posts on the forum that Orbi does not interact well with managed switches, in particular with IGMP snooping.

Have you tried physically moving the satellite to the same location as the router (temporarily, to test)

      • Connect the satellite directly to the router (in place of the switch) and see if it changes to ethernet backhaul.
(It may not happen instantly.  There are internal timers on the Orbi that periodically check for better connections.)
      • If that works, plug the switch back in, and plug the satellite into the switch.
      • If that fails, the switch is the culprit.
      • If that also works correctly, the ethernet cable running to the original satellite location may be defective.

Once again, satallite RBS50 is not connected through the switches but directly on the router RBR50 :smileyhappy:

I think I am not clear enough in my above posts, might be my poor English...

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Also disable ALL IGMP Protocols ON any managed switches.

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

  • Thanks for the suggestions, I have been bussy last 30 minutes running between the satellites and the router, checked the cable with a network tester and everything seems to be okay.

Just before I perform a factory reset rebooted everything and now it suddendly connected through the wire. I am a happy with the setup now, it was bugging me a little.

Just to give you a idea, we have 3 floor house, at first floor I have the router and sateliets are on each other floor. All 3 mounted with a 3D printed holders.

The router is taken out the closet where the modem and other electronics devices are, it was getting hot in the closet in the summer months, so I hope this helps.

Once again thanks for the help.

Hope it's working well. if so, be sure to do a back up configuration to file on the RBR for safe keeping. Saves time if you have to reset the RRR in the future.
