Looking to get an Orbi system - please help!

Hi all,

I'm looking to get an Orbi system for my home.

My home has ethernet ports in every room - so I each Orbi satellite would be connected to an Ethernet port.

I just wanted to confirm if this setup would work:

Internet modem -> Asus RT-AC87U (with Wi-Fi disabled) -> Orbi RBR50 in AP mode

Asus RT-AC87U -> 16 Port switch that has a connection to each room

and in 2 other rooms:

Switch -> Orbi RBS50

Would this setup work fine? Is there anything I should look for when setting this up?

  • Yes, with this configuration you will have a wired backhaul. I think this would give your system the most possible stable backhaul.

    Please make sure to sync your satellites with the router before connecting the cables so you will have the wireless backhaul as a backup in case anything happens with your wired network.

  • Yes, I think this setting will work perfectly.

    Is the 16-port switch a managed switch? If yes then it's preferable to disable all IGMP protocols on the switch.

      Thanks so much!

      Just to confirm - would this configuration mean there is wired backhaul? Would this be the fastest possible setup?
