Orbi Connection Drops Once A Day

Hi

I didnt see my exact model listed, its:

Orbi Tri-band Whole Home Mesh WiFi System with 3Gbps Speed (RBK50) {downstairs} in addition to  NETGEAR Orbi Ultra-Performance Whole Home Mesh WiFi Satellite Extender - works with your Orbi Router to add 2,500 sq. feet at speeds up to 3 Gbps, AC3000 (RBS50) {upstairs}

Ive been having issues where my Orbi will drop connection once a day.

I have Time Warner internet but we use the Orbi System to boost for the whole house.

Always once a day, the internet drops for like 2-10 minutes. At least once a day.

Its not a huge deal but im not sure why it keeps happening.

Anyone have any things for me to look into or check out to try and fix?

Could ORBI be doing some type of update or something?

Every time it goes out, i open the Orbi app and it says internet offline and then after 2-10 minutes it comes back.

Any help is super appreciated.

Thanks!

  • It would be useful to know if the event is predictable.  For example, on the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, click on the blue box labelled "Connection Status."  It will show when the DHCP lease is due to expire.  I would set a timer on my smartphone to alert me a few minutes before the lease is due to expire and "see what happens."  This idea is, of course, ridiculous, but then dropping the connection every day is also ridiculous.

Can i do what you suggested through the Orbi app on my phone? Or is it something i need to do on their website/on my desktop?

Ill try now - thanks much for your help.

On using a web browser.  The "app" is limited in what it can do.

        Sorry.

Use any web browser to open the page http://orbilogin.net (or by the IP address of the Orbi router, usually 192.168.1.1).

The user name is always "admin".  When the Orbi came "out of the box", the password was "password", but may have been changed during setup.  It is not the WiFi password.

One hour is a pretty aggressive DHCP lease. (Mine from Spectrum is one day.)  If the connection only drops one time per day, then the DHCP lease is not likely to be the culprit.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

I have the main Orbi router sitting right next to my Time Warner provided Modem. The Time Warner modem is ARRIS Surfboard SBG6782-AC. I have the other satellite (#1) in another room about 20-30 feet away. And then I have another satellite (#2) upstairs, pretty much directly above from where the #1 is.
